While we did not win the school vs. school competition, we only have 7 kids left to be registered and I think that is pretty outstanding. Thank you all so much for getting your registrations submitted!

Dear Waukazoo families,

We hope your students had a great week at Waukazoo, at our school wide assembly and any celebrations they had in class for Valentine's day! And learning too! Next week, we have a tradition at Waukazoo: Purple Power week! We celebrate those who have fought a cancer diagnosis and remember those who lost their battle. Each day, we have special opportunities for students to donate to Cancer Research through the Van Andel Institute. Our students are always so excited to find ways this week to see what they can give! We often use the phrase, "It's about what you can give, not what you can get." This celebration offers the chance to have challenging conversations at home about friends and family who have been affected by the impacts of a cancer diagnosis. If this week might prompt your student to have some big emotions, please feel welcome to reach out to their teacher so we can take extra good care of them.

Here is a reminder of the important days next week:

• Monday: $1 to purchase a purple ribbon
• Tuesday: Purple Power Store (open during lunch, donations accepted for items from $1-20)
• Wednesday: Hat day! $1 to wear a hat to school
• Thursday: Purple Power Store (open during lunch, donations accepted for items from $1-20)
• Friday: Purple Shirt Day! Wear your Purple Power shirt, from this year or from year's past

The next week, we will have a half day for students on February 26 for teacher professional development. Release time is 11:52am.

The week of February 17-21 is Purple Power week at Waukazoo. Purple Power week is how Waukazoo supports the West Ottawa Purple Power mission of fighting cancer through donations to research. 100 percent of the money earned that week will go directly to cancer research at VanAndel Institute. Our theme this year is "UNTIL THERE IS CURE" and we plan to keep fighting until that day.

We are in need of volunteers to work the Purple Power donation store over our lunch times on February 18 and February 20. You would be helping with set-up, accepting donations and handing out items from the store. Some 5th grade students will be volunteering with you and assisting. You must be volunteer approved through West Ottawa!
