Welcome to the monthly Stanford Middle School Soar Report ...📰

This is a monthly report that showcases all things Stanford. Teachers and staff submit pictures, videos, and short updates of all things going on inside and outside of the classrooms on campus. Take some time to scroll and explore all the wonderful things the Hawks community has been up to this past month!

Each month in 2024 we would like to take the opportunity to highlight different departments on campus and let them know the positive difference they are making! Please take a moment to give a quick shout out, high five, or kudos to a ELA teacher who's positively impacted you! These messages will be delivered to them next month.

Viva Club members making aguas frescas and competing in taste and presentation. Teachers judged the different beverages.

The Stanford Spelling Bee crowned their top 3 spellers in February. 3rd place was Zachary (7th), 2nd place was Isabella (8th), and 1st place was Donovan (7th). Donovan went on to represent Stanford and LBUSD at the regional spelling bee in Los Angeles on March 20th!

Stanford Advanced Band and Advanced Orchestra had a fantastic month! They both participated in the SCSBOA and Forum Festivals, and earned top ratings. Students also participated in a clinic with a guest music teacher and observed other schools from around Southern California. We are so proud of their hard work!

In Energy in the Environment, table teams worked together to research a type of extreme weather and create a Google slide presentation to teach the other students. Teams also innovated prototypes to protect people from these types of extreme weather. In the pictures, tables are teaching other students in the class about their type of extreme weather and explaining their prototypes.

In Flight and Space, student teams competed in an Explorers of the Universe Trivia Challenge, where they were tested in their knowledge of four categories: Flight, Space, Science & Technology, and Record Setters. The winning team for each period received a trophy to keep on their table for the month and got to sign the Trivia Hall of Fame poster.

In Medical Detectives, students are learning about the nervous system and the role that neurons play in their bodies. Table teams created 3D models of neurons and created a stop-motion video of a neuron passing a signal.

Once a month Stanford's FLA works with Prisk's FLA to provide mentorship and connection. In recognition of Women's History Month, Stanford's FLA helped Prisk's female leaders to write thank you notes to women in their lives that have been inspiring.

Wellness center partnered up with FLA all month long to celebrate women’s month! This week we played women’s history month trivia!

The wellness center hosted a cooking with Ms. T workshop. Students learned how to make and cook tortillas from scratch!

The wellness center celebrated women’s history month with a Female Empowerment Fair! A variety of businesswomen and female based nonprofits tabled at lunch! Students had a blast learning about different careers, eating Susiecake cupcakes, talking to the army, and much more!

The wellness center and FLA partnered with the community to celebrate women’s history month. A big thank you to Kona Ice for stopping by Stamford for a sweet treat! Stanford hawks love supporting female owned!

The wellness center hosted a stress free spring workshop making sensory bottles!

The wellness center is hosting a weekly healthy habits group. This week we talked about the importance of water and staying hydrated!

The wellness center partnered with Ms. Peña to host an after school art workshop: pottery for stress relief!

The wellness center hosted a lunchtime cooking workshop with Ms. T. Students learned how to make an easy lunch with only 4 ingredients!

March is Social Worker Month! Students practiced gratitude by writing cards to every social worker in LBUSD!

The wellness center and FLA partnered for women’s history month to color the campus with positive messages and inspiring female leaders!

Every Tuesday the wellness center hosts Feed My Soul yoga! All are welcome come join in on the fun :)

The wellness center and FLA hosted activities all month long for women’s history month! Students picked an inspirational female in their life and wrote a letter to them!
