FIRST LEGO League Competition
Our two FIRST LEGO League Robotics Teams competed in a regional tournament this past weekend. With this year's theme, "MASTERPIECE," students imagined and innovated new ways to create and communicate art across the globe through STEM. Both teams created a project based on their passion. The "Donation Station" team shared their passion of charity, when they designed an App that schedules pickups of household donations to local food pantries, in essence an Uber Eats in reverse. The "Crabtastic Crusaders" team showcased their passion for Southern Maryland culture and crabbing. They designed a reusable 3-D printed crab model to aid in teaching others how to pick/eat those crustaceans, with the goal of expanding the industry. After their skit and presentation, the teams competed in the robot games challenge. During the robot games, the teams robots moved through the course to complete missions, which involved months of hard work researching, problem solving, coding, and engineering to build and program their LEGO robots. Both the teams scored higher (in the Robotics portion) than last year's team who won the Regionals competition this time last year! Father Andrew White students competed against a total of 22 teams. They were a top five finisher in the Robotics games and they received a 2nd place finish for Robot design.
A big congratulations goes to this team as well as their coach, Mrs. Downey and their mentors, Mrs. Sarlo and Ms. Rowland.
All of this was possible due to a very generous grant from the MIL Family Foundation that gave our students the necessary tools and the funds they needed to participate in this opportunity. The MIL Family Foundation sponsored both teams to enter this competition as well as provided the funds for the materials to build and code the robot and its course. Many, many thanks to the MIL Family Foundation for their continued support that inspires our students to become the technological leaders of our future!

Our Open House (by appointment only) to invite interested new families to visit our wonderful school will be held on Wednesday, January 31st from 3:00 – 5:30pm. We appreciate that our families are the best ambassadors for FAW and your word of mouth about our school is the best PR we have! Please help us get the word out about our next Open House to all prospective family and friends. Great things are happening at Father Andrew White! Note: Admissions for new/prospective families will open on Thursday, February 1, 2024.
Re-enrollment for current families will begin tomorrow, January 17th!
Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 18th and Tuesday, January 24th, we will be administering the MAP Growth standardized test for select students in grades 2-8. This test is a computer-adapted assessment that helps identify students' ability levels, demonstrate academic growth over time, and provide information for placing students in appropriate instructional programs. Teachers can immediately access the test results, allowing them to evaluate their teaching practices and adjust instructional methods accordingly.
Please be sure your children get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast before the test.
Donations Needed for our Brown Bag Auction!
The children have such fun with the Brown Bag Auction and we hope you can help! Please consider contributing items to help build the baskets listed on the flyer below. If you'd like to donate a completed basket, just let a committee member know. Thank you!

FAW News Email
Do you have an announcement you’d like to put in our weekly bulletin? Or perhaps you went to an FAW event, such as a basketball game, and you’d like to share some information or photos you took. We have created an email where you can send pictures, blurbs, etc. This will help us get new items in our bulletin, on our lobby TV, and on our website. Email: FAWnews@fatherandrewwhite.org Kindly send anything you’d like considered in the Announcements by Friday evening of the week prior.
Jesus told us to love others as ourselves (and of course love God above all else). What does it mean to love ourselves? Start by taking care of yourself. With modern advances and information literally at our fingertips, it can be difficult to know what to believe and which advice to follow. Pray for discernment about God’s will and what He wants you to do, and pray continuously. Prayer engages the mind, which basically exercises your brain. As I’ve mentioned before, feeling gratitude and feeling anxiety involve the same area of the brain. Thus, if you focus on gratitude, you literally don’t have room for anxiety. When you pray, offer God praise and thanksgiving, and make your requests known to Him. Then be sure to listen; and finally - something many people have trouble with - put your TRUST in Him.
