SMS Families: The safety and well-being of our students and staff are always our top priorities. In our ongoing efforts to enhance security, we are piloting a new intercom system for visitor access. The front doors to the school will be locked. If you need to enter the building, please use the intercom to speak directly with the office staff. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our school community safe.

As we continue into the second semester, help us to encourage students to follow the Yellowjacket Way behavior matrix. We want all students to be successful, and following the three principles of the Yellowjacket way will help them achieve that. A link to the full matrix can be found at the bottom of the newsletter.

We are collecting gently used or new joggers and hoodies to help our students. Collection box will be in the couselor's closet.

It's not too late! Buy yourself or a friend a Valentine's Gram to support the Caring & Sharing Club. They will be available for sale at lunch and before school.

This opportunity is open to any 8th grade girl interested in science, technology, engineering, arts and math in Arkansas. Students will explore various STEAM careers through hands-on activities, learning new skills, and meet women mentors excelling in their fields.

If you are interested, see Mrs. Melton or Mrs. Dunn. The application deadline is February 14th.

Teams will be posted on the Sheridan School District Website and Facebook the day following tryouts - March 1st. They will be posted no later than 1:00 pm.

The Grant County Spelling Bee was held on Friday, February 7th at McKenzie Hall. We are so proud of the five students that represented SMS at the bee - Vera Baker, Alice Gifford, Marilyn Johnson, Jacob Trammell, and Bryleigh Walker. They all did an excellent job, and Alice Gifford placed third in the competition! Way to go Yellowjackets!

The Arkansas Council for Military Children surveys military families in Arkansas annually to assess areas of need and to determine the general level of awareness of resources available to military families. The survey is completely anonymous; no personally identifiable information will be collected. The survey will be open to receive responses through February 14, 2025.
