Message from your Principal
Hello Carver Elementary Community!
We had a great week at Carver Elementary! Our after school soccer kicked off on Monday and we finalized the rosters on Wednesday. We have 28 students that completed registration and are attending on Mondays and Wednesdays through the month of September. The Skyhawk coaches are excited to work with our students! Per Skyhawk policy, the registration closes 24 hours before the first practice and it is limited to 2nd-5th grade students. We are excited to partner with the Skyhawks and YES program to provide FREE opportunities for our 2nd-5th grade students. The YES program will offer soccer, flag football, cheer, and volleyball for the fall semester on Mondays and Wednesday from 2:50-4:00 PM. The registration form is below and is limited to 30 students per activity, grades 2nd-5th. Attendance, behavior, and good sportsmanship will be considered as the slots are limited. FLAG FOOTBALL and CHEER begin October 7th. Please register now! The sign up is below and paper copies were sent home on Friday. IF you have difficulties registering, please stop by the front office.
Our Cross Country team represented at Mitchell High School with over 1000 runners! Carver represented well with their BLUE Carver Shirts. Thank you for your support and we even had a student place 3rd in his grade!
*Teachers are preparing to begin tutoring or sponsor an after school club beginning the week of September 23rd. Be on the lookout for the club sign ups or tutoring invitation for selected students. Sign up forms will go home this week-we currently have Library Assistants, Yarn Club, Jesus Boot Camp, Typing and Computer Skills, and Lego Club! Tutoring for selected students will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school.
We hosted our first Parent Meeting and began with some information about Carver Elementary enrollment, attendance, and academics. Please join us on Tuesday, October 10th for our next Parent Meeting at 3:00 PM in our library.
We understand that some families are unable to attend at this and we will have a monthly Second Cup of Coffee beginning the last Friday of each month (September 27th) from 8:00-9:00 AM in our library. We would LOVE to partner with our families and how we can support our students and making Carver Elementary the Heart of our Community!
Our Math Air Tutoring for select 4th and 5th grade students began this week and will continue from 7:55-8:40 AM. Students will enter the gym, go directly to their classroom to hang up their backpack, and go to the Computer Lab where breakfast is available. Tutoring sessions begin promptly at 7:55AM and students will return to class at 8:40 AM. Attendance will be taken in the computer lab.
Thank you for supporting parent drop off outside our gym doors and having your student to school on time. REMINDER that school officially begins at 7:50 AM. If your student arrives after 7:55 AM they will be marked tardy. We want all of our students to eat breakfast and have a positive start to each day; please adjust your schedule accordingly. THANK YOU to all the students that arrive on time each day! The gym doors continue to open each day at 7:30 AM for a FREE, hot breakfast in the cafeteria from 7:30-7:45 AM. ALL students will enter and wait in the gym until the bell rings, every day this school year. Carver staff will provide supervision in the gym and students will be escorted to classrooms when the bell rings at 7:50 AM. Breakfast switches to a cold breakfast from 7:45-8:10 AM, that may be eaten in the classroom. The gym doors will close at 7:55 AM and students will need to be signed in at the front office where they will receive a cold breakfast and sent to class.
Dismissal is in the front of Carver Elementary at 2:50 PM each day. Students are escorted to the front of the building, walkers and parent pick up are dismissed, and car riders wait with their grade level. Please be patient as we are dismissing students to the appropriate cars.
*During inclement weather, students are dismissed from the gym.

Notes from Ms. Gio!
Hello everyone!
We really have been focusing on RESPECT this past few weeks, which comes in many forms: RESPECT for life, for property, for parents, for elders, for nature, and for the beliefs and rights of others. Respect includes being courteous and polite, as well as respecting yourself by avoiding self-criticism. We can model respect for our children regarding how we speak to and treat them. Respect is not only an important character trait, but it can also be a source of real joy! Respect implies a certain appreciation, which makes us more aware of other people’s needs and feelings.
ENGAGE: Honor Each Other, here is an idea, as a family, create an Honor Board where family members and friends can write affirmations to the person of honor. (Make sure each family member gets to be the honoree.) The Honor Board can be made of construction paper, poster board, or a blank piece of paper. Once the board is complete, encourage the family member to display it so they can see it often and remember the great things others see in them.
EMPOWER: Practice Forgiveness, everyone makes mistakes. Ask each family member to share a story about a time they made a mistake (at school, work, home, etc.) and discuss what lessons they learned. Share this quote: “Mistakes don’t define us, but how we respond to mistakes will.” Ask, “How can we show honor for each other, even when we make a mistake or disagree?” Process each person’s response and thank everyone for their willingness to share. Challenge each other to respond to mistakes this week with love and respect.
EXCEL: Honor Those Who Serve, celebrate members of your community who lead through service to others. Write “Thank You” notes to someone that has helped or served your family. Consider people in your community like veterans, nurses/doctors, teachers, ministers, bus drivers, police officers, firefighters, mail carriers, etc. Deliver these notes with a special treat.
Have a conversation with your kiddo about, What makes them/ or you feel respected? Disrespected? Why?, and process this discussions with them.
