As we continue through the school year, I'd like to remind you of the importance of regular conversations with your children about their social media usage and cell phones. These tools can be effective for staying connected, but they also carry obligations and possible concerns.

I encourage you to have regular discussions with your youngster on the following:

Online Safety: Ensure they understand the value of privacy, avoid sharing personal information, and be cautious about who they contact online.

Digital footprint: Remind them that what they share online can have long-term consequences. Encourage children to think carefully before giving information.

Respectful Communication: Discuss with your child the value of treating others with kindness and respect, both online and offline. Cyberbullying is a serious issue, and our pupils must understand the consequences of their words and actions.

Time Management: Teach your youngster to balance screen time with other activities. Encourage them to create boundaries and prioritize their time for education, family, and rest.

Critical Thinking: Discuss the necessity of questioning the information students find online and being aware of the possibility of misinformation.

Character Education Week will be celebrated district-wide, beginning with our Character Football Game halftime recognition on Friday, October 4th. This year's theme is "Shine Bright with Good Character." Various activities will occur throughout each school from October 7 - October 11, including community service projects and student recognition for good character.
