NO SCHOOL DAYS FOR STUDENTS
FCS Schools will be closed from October 14th-16th in observance of Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day, followed by a school holiday and Teacher Professional Development Day. Students will return on Thursday, October 17th, and Friday, October 18th.
ID BADGES ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL REGISTERED STUDENTS:
It is of high importance that students wear their student ID badges at all times while on campus. The number one reason for this requirement is safety. Wearing ID badges helps us quickly identify students, ensuring that only those who belong on campus are present, and it greatly assists in maintaining a secure environment for everyone.

October 7, 2024
Dear Hornets,
I hope this month's message finds you and your family well. As we transition into the beautiful month of October, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our school community’s achievements and share some important information about upcoming events and initiatives.
Firstly, I want to express my gratitude for the incredible support you have shown during the first months of the school year. Your involvement and dedication have played a vital role in creating a positive and nurturing environment for our students.
In October, we celebrate several key events and initiatives:
- Happy Tails Therapy Animals: We will have our monthly visit from Happy Tails Pet Therapy on Wednesday, October 9th. Students will have an opportunity to spend some time outdoors enjoying some fresh air and getting some TLC from the Happy Tails Pet Therapy Animals. Every student under the age of 18 is now required to have a waiver signed by their Parent/Guardian to be able to participate in the Happy Tails program (due to liability/risk management). If a student is 18 years or older, they can sign their own waiver to participate (*CBI students must still have a parent/guardian signature).
- AVID School-wide College and Career Awareness Day: Join us in our AVID School Wide Day by wearing your college gear on October 25th. This exciting event is dedicated to fostering a college-going culture among students and staff. It is a day in which we will capture specific and highly effective learning strategies for our students to promote college readiness. By participating, you'll not only show your school spirit but also support students in envisioning their future educational paths. Let's come together to inspire and motivate our students to achieve their academic goals!
- Red Ribbon Week: Red Ribbon Week is an important annual event observed in schools across the United States to promote drug-free lifestyles among young people. For high schools, this week provides a unique opportunity to engage students in meaningful discussions about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and the benefits of living a healthy, substance-free life. (See attached resources)
- Featured News Releases: We are excited to share with you the latest updates and happenings at our school through our regularly featured news releases. These releases provide invaluable insights into the vibrant life of our school community, showcasing the achievements of our students, upcoming events, and important announcements.
Other Important Operational and Safety Measures
- Safety Drills: As part of our commitment to student safety, we will conduct standard drills throughout the month. These drills are crucial in ensuring that all students and staff know the procedures to follow in case of an emergency.
- Health and Wellness: With the change of season, we remind everyone to stay proactive about health and wellness. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and encourage them to practice good hygiene.
Lastly, I want to remind you that our doors are always open. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to support you and your child’s educational journey.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to another productive and exciting month ahead.

Principal Miley
Happy Tails Therapy Animals at Roswell High School!
Happy Tails Therapy Animals will be visiting our school on a monthly basis, bringing joy and therapeutic benefits to our community. To participate in these visits, please ensure that your student's waiver form is returned to their Study Hall teacher. The Study Hall teachers will be responsible for maintaining a file of all approved waivers. Once an approved waiver is on file, the student will be able to interact with the therapy animals during each visit.
We highly encourage all students to take advantage of these visits, as both students and staff can greatly benefit from interacting with these trained therapy animals. Research has shown that such interactions can lead to increased serotonin levels, contributing to happier, more positive moments.
For those who need a waiver form, they are available for pickup in the classroom/study hall/4th period or the front office. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this wonderful experience that promotes well-being and happiness within our school community.

October's Focus Area: JUNIOR MEETINGS
Counselor junior meetings are a crucial opportunity for high school juniors to receive guidance and support as they prepare for their final year of high school and transition to post-secondary education or career paths. Here are some key elements typically covered in these meetings:
- Academic Progress Review: Counselors will assess the student's current academic standing, including GPA, standardized test scores, and class rank. This helps identify areas where the student may need additional support or improvement.
- Course Planning: Discussions will focus on selecting courses for the senior year that align with the student's college or career goals. This may include advanced placement or dual enrollment options that can enhance a student's academic profile.
- College and Career Exploration: Counselors will provide resources and advice on researching colleges and career paths. This might include discussing potential majors, understanding application processes, and exploring different career fields that align with the student's interests and strengths.
- Standardized Testing Strategies: Guidance on preparing for and scheduling SAT, ACT, or other relevant standardized tests is provided. Counselors may also discuss the importance of these scores in the college admission process.
- Extracurricular Activities and Leadership: Emphasizing the importance of involvement in extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and leadership roles, counselors will help students understand how these experiences can enhance college applications and personal development.
- Financial Planning and Scholarships: An introduction to financial aid options and scholarship opportunities is crucial. Counselors will guide students on how to research and apply for financial assistance to help manage the cost of higher education.
- Personal Well-being and Stress Management: Discussions on maintaining a healthy balance between academics, extracurriculars, and personal life can be essential for a student's well-being. Counselors may offer strategies for managing stress and time effectively.
These meetings are tailored to each student's unique needs, providing personalized advice and support to help juniors make informed decisions about their future.

SCHOOL SAFETY
Safety Drills: At Roswell High School, the safety and well-being of our students are our top priorities. We understand that your child's security is of utmost importance to you, and we want to assure you that we are committed to providing a safe learning environment. To ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency, we have conducted safety drills over the past two weeks. These drills are designed to familiarize students and staff with the procedures to follow in various situations, including fire, severe weather, lockdowns, and other emergencies.
What You Should Know
- Types of Drills: We conduct a variety of drills to cover different scenarios, such as fire drills, lockdown drills, and evacuation procedures. Each drill is carefully planned to minimize disruption while ensuring that students understand what to do in an actual emergency.
- Communication: In the event of an actual emergency, we will notify parents as soon as it is safe to do so. We ask that you keep your contact information up to date with the school to ensure you receive timely notifications. Reassurance for Students: We understand that drills can be unsettling for some students. Our staff is trained to handle these situations with care, providing clear instructions and reassurance. We encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of these drills in keeping everyone safe.
- Parental Role: Your support is crucial. Please talk to your child about the importance of following safety protocols and listening to their teachers during drills. Reinforce that these measures are in place to protect them and their classmates. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to ensure a safe and secure environment for all our students. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education and safety.
