From The Principal
Kia ora koutou
We’ve reached the time of year where school is certainly becoming even more a hive of activity than usual, with so many events to celebrate. I’m sure many families are also feeling that the rush towards Christmas has well and truly begun!
Well Done to our Athletes!
First of all, I’d like to congratulate all our Athletics participants (so far), who have been hard at work on the track developing their skills and encouraging one another. We’re also looking forward to cheering on our Zones team later this term, in addition to awaiting results from our very first Table Tennis tournament, taking place today!
Albert/Eden Choir
Last night was a major highlight for music, with the MENPS Choir joining schools from across the cluster at Holy Trinity Cathedral for the Eden/Albert Choir Performance.
This was a wonderful evening’s celebration of music, with the smiles on the faces of the performers adding to the beautiful singing the audience enjoyed. Sincere thanks are due to Associate Principal Aone Laufili for her organisation, and also to our Resource Manager, Angela Dorrington. We’re extremely fortunate that choral singing is Angela’s passion, and grateful that she volunteered her free time to work with the children over many months in preparation for the event.
I'd like to give a special shout out to Olive and Zara, who soloed so beautifully on the night!
Playscape Development Project
As you may be aware, one of the key asset investment goals for the Board is to turn attention to re-development of our ageing Year 3/4 Playground, so we are excited to begin work next week with Harko Brown.
Harko is a play space designer who has authored many books, including ‘Te Mara Hupara: 30 Ancient Maori Artefacts for Play, Learning & Exercise’ (2017) & ‘Ira Takaro: Rethinking health, sport and education in Aotearoa New Zealand’, amongst others. He has been involved in the design of projects connecting children to natural playscapes in a range of contexts, including numerous education centres, Auckland and Tauranga Councils, in addition to leading architect firms. His knowledge of traditional and nature-based play is unique and highly sought after.
We're looking forward to welcoming him next week, when he will begin workshopping with children and adults, developing plans for creative play and recreation opportunities in a way that is less ‘commercial’, more creative and natural in style and approach.
This will be the first step in developing what we hope will become an exciting new play opportunity for the children. Watch this space for more information as the project takes shape this term/early next year.

PTA Roles 2025 - Can you help??
We have important PTA roles that we need to fill for 2025 - can you help?? Email us: menpspta@gmail.com if you have any questions or are interested in these roles. Thank you!
1. PTA Co-Treasurer
We have two wonderful treasurers who support the PTA. One role covers day to day treasury logistics (eg banking and eftpos administration). We are looking for someone to take over the second treasury role, which is more accounting focused.
The role involves:
- Co-authorising bank payments
- Completing monthly bank reconciliations
- Completing annual financial statements and lodging them on the Charities Services website
- Occasionally issuing invoices to sponsors
Time commitment is approx an hour per month, plus a couple more hours at year end to do the financial statements. Basic accounting knowledge will be necessary, but it's not complicated if you are familiar with book-keeping. We use MYOB which is super intuitive. Because you can choose when you complete the monthly tasks, this role is a great way to contribute to the school if you have a basic understanding of accounting and a bit to juggle in your schedule.
If you are interested in the role or you have any questions, please email us: menpspta@gmail.com.
2. PTA Secretary
The PTA meet once a term (second Tuesday of every term). The PTA secretary's role involves:
1. Sending out a meeting agenda and meeting invite one week prior to each PTA meeting.
2. Recording meeting minutes and distributing after the meeting.
3. Maintaining a contact list of PTA members and making sure they are notified of regular PTA meetings.
Time commitment is approx. 1 hour per month. No experience required - any questions, please email: menpspta@gmail.com.
3. PTA Communications/Newsletter
This is an easy role to assist the PTA and get to know the full range of PTA events/initiatives. This role could be job-shared if you want to partner with one or more people. Time commitment is approx. 15-30 minutes per week to collate and write the weekly newsletter. Any questions - email menpspta@gmail.com!
