Remote Learning 11/18/24
Memorial High School
It's a Remote Learning Day!!
On remote days - I will send out the following information. It has all the reminders you will need to make sure that your student understands what to do for the day. Please take a moment to look through the information below and know that Canvas work may be delayed a bit today due to the weather. If power goes out - we will certainly make adjustments. Stay safe and we'll see you tomorrow....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Much of what is listed below is a review of the procedure used in years past. We will continue to utilize this schedule for all future remote days if needed. Additionally, please keep monitoring media for all district weather-related information over the next few days.
What to Expect:
Teachers should have instructional items posted to Canvas by 8:00 am on 11/18/24. This may include learning activities and/or short instructional videos. Yes - new curriculum may be introduced on remote learning days so it is important that your student stay engaged during this process. Additionally, your student has the opportunity to interact with the classroom teacher in live Google Meet "office hour" sessions. (See schedule below) The Google Meet office hours are not designed to introduce new instruction. Instead, they are offered as an opportunity for students to connect with their teacher to ask clarifying questions. The Google Meet office hour sessions are not required of your student. However, classroom instruction continues to move forward so this is a PERFECT opportunity for them to make sure they understand all the information needed for concept understanding.
Each content area will host 2 live office hour sessions. We offer two as a way to meet the needs of varying family schedules.
Questions:
* Does my student know how to log into Google Meet? Yes --- In most classes, they should simply have to click on the link in their canvas when it is time for their Google Meet session.
* Does the student Chromebook have a microphone and a camera? Yes - I suggest using a pair of headphones when on a Google Meet. This makes the whole process easier and helps reduce feedback.
When we've hosted Google Meet sessions with faculty - we've found that the closer you are to the Wi-fi source - the better. Also, make sure you are aware of what is behind your student or "in the camera view" so to say. We want to avoid all awkward situations for everyone.
When will teachers offer their office hours?
Please remember that these office hour sessions are not mandatory, but offered as a resource to the students. Also -- as a key to help navigate this process --- when a timeslot begins, all classes in that content area will host office hours.
