Sandshore's Purple Day Epilepsy Awareness Fundraiser
In honor of Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness, Sandshore School held a special fundraiser on March 26, 2025. Students and staff came together to support the cause by donating toys, games, crafts, and a monetary donation from our Kindness Ambassadors for the children at Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown. Thank you to everyone who helped spread kindness and awareness!
Sandshore's Peer Mediation Program
Sandshore's Peer Mediation Program
Sandshore is proud to introduce its brand-new Peer Mediation Program! As part of this conflict resolution initiative, 25 dedicated 4th and 5th grade students completed six hours of training with our school counselors during lunch/recess to become a Sandshore Certified Peer Mediator. Our Peer Mediators are now equipped to help their peers peacefully resolve conflicts, promote understanding, and build a stronger, more supportive school community.
Sandshore Kindness Ambassadors / Unified Visit Marauders' Believe
Sandshore Kindness Ambassadors/Unified visit Marauders' Believe at MOHS
Some of our Sandshore Kindness Ambassadors and Unified students recently participated in a special social immersion experience with a visit to the Marauder Believe program at MOHS. The field trip focused on promoting kindness, teamwork, and positivity through engaging Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities. Through this collaborative experience, students had the opportunity to build meaningful connections and strengthen their positive relationship skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Sandshore Shields of Honor
Throughout the year we will be recognizing students who display the core SEL competencies of self control, self awareness, safety, teamwork, leadership, and empathy.
Stay tuned for our April recipients.
Notes from our School Nurse, Mrs. Suzanne Herbst
National School Nurse Day
Since 1972, National School Nurse Day has been set aside to recognize school nurses. National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting. School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week.
National Nurses Week is May 6-12 each year.
“By investing in and recognizing the contributions school nurses make to student well-being, schools can create healthier learning environments where all children can succeed academically and develop into healthy adults who contribute positively to society. Investing in school nursing is not only about fostering a healthier future for children, but also strengthening communities for generations to come.” JAMA Health Forum. 2025;6(1):e250116. doi:10.1001/jamahealthforum.2025.0116
Do you know what school nurses do everyday? We do a lot more than you probably realize! It is definitely not just bandaids and ice packs. Please take a moment to learn more to help me celebrate my 28th year as a school nurse in my 31 years as a nurse!
Thank you, Suzanne Herbst, M.Ed, BSN, RN, CSN
