Teacher Appreciation Week May 6-10
If you would like to volunteer to show your appreciation for our teachers, please take a look at this link where you will find some volunteer opportunities for next week.
Celebrating Schoolwide Math Growth!
One of the assessments students take three times per year is called the iReady diagnostic. This helps our teachers and interventionists check in on students' current understanding so ongoing teaching can be targeted to meet their needs. It also helps us monitor the impact of our instruction.
Below you can see that in the fall of this year, 19% of our students were performing two or more grade levels below their current grade in math and 52% of our students were one grade level below. With hard work from our students as well as intentional, targeted support from classroom teachers and our math interventionist, we now have only 13% of students performing two or more grade levels below and 37% one grade level below.
This is significant growth over the course of one year! We will stay the course through this year and into next and we look forward to seeing all of our students successfully engaging in grade level content. Well done students and staff!
Please Help! Successful Schools Survey
The Successful Schools Survey gives us so much valuable information about how students, caregivers and teachers feel about the school's climate. We use this information to make decisions about how we can make Scott an even better support for our community.
In fact, one of our schoolwide improvement goals uses the student feedback directly. Our climate goal is to increase our favorable response rate for sense of belonging from 59% to 70% for our 3rd-5th grade students, as measured by the Successful Schools Survey, by the end of this school year.
We truly want to hear from each of you. In order to make things a bit more exciting, if 50% of our families respond to the survey by May 31, all Scotties get a dance party in June! Woot! Woot! The survey opens on Monday!

Cully Bike Fair at Scott School - Participate and/or Volunteer!
This year, Scott School will host the Cully Bike Fair on Friday, June 7th from 2:45-5:45. Please join both Rigler and Scott communities in celebrating the joy of a bicycle. There will be a Bike Rodeo, a learn-to-bike class session, and more! We are currently looking for volunteers for the fair. Please sign-up here.
Walk and Roll to School - Reminder
National Bike & Roll to School Day, Wednesday, May 8th, provides a day across the country where students climb on bikes or lace up roller skates and roll to school together. This is a fantastic opportunity to get students outside as the weather warms up and encourage them to consider how they're getting to and from school each day. Join us in biking or rolling to school on Wednesday, May 8th!
May's Emergency Drill
We have one emergency drill in May: Evacuate (fire). This is scheduled to take place during the third week of May.
Attendance Matters
As we enter the last month of school, we want to remind you about the importance of school attendance. The end of the school year brings many events and celebrations and we want to make sure your child is here to participate. The last day of school for Portland Public Schools this year is June 14th. Our teachers will be here teaching everyday until then- please make sure your child is here too!
Missing School = Missing out!
Community Road Safety Projects
70’s Greenway: Construction for the 70s Greenway: Cully Connector is anticipated to begin in late summer 2024 and will extend the 70s greenway north from NE Sandy Blvd to NE Lombard. This greenway is along our SRTS Primary Investment Routes and should support safer speeds along routes students and families are most likely to use traveling to/from school.
There are some turn movement restrictions planned at the 72nd/Sandy/Fremont intersection. Most notably, southbound traffic north of this intersection on 72nd will be restricted to right turns only, and northbound traffic coming from south of the intersection will also be restricted to right turns only.
Cully Neighborhood Street Improvements: The Cully Neighborhood Street Improvement Project will include paving several streets, adding sidewalks, and traffic calming (i.e., speed bumps). The sidewalks on NE 66th Ave from Prescott to Sumner and ADA ramps at the Prescott corner may impact Scott pickup/drop off.
