5/6 Weekly News
March 14, 2025
Dear 5/6 Families,
March is Reading Month and our team has planned some super fun activities for our students. On Monday, our students wore athletic apparel to remember that “Reading jogs your memory.” On Tuesday, students wore a word (adjective) to describe themselves. On Wednesday, they wore “Hats off to reading!” On Thursday, we dropped everything and read in our hallways and on Friday, we finished with flashlight reading. See the calendar below for next week’s fun:
We recognize that reading is a fundamental skill that all of our students need to be successful in whatever life endeavors they choose. We are committed to supporting all of our students to become readers and to develop a love for reading. Thank you for joining us in this work as partners in education.
With Spartan Pride,
Bess Hodges

Ms. Cavinder’s Students Help Keep LMS Clean
This week our 5th graders started a unit on our environment. Students considered the ways in which we litter and damage our earth. Using their learning to be more responsible stewards of the environment, Ms. Cavinder’s class picked up trash around the LMS campus. What a great way to demonstrate our Spartan value of responsibility!
Principal Hodges and Team Leaders Attend PLC Training
At Lakeview School District, we are a Professional Learning Community where staff work together to ensure all students learn at high levels by continually answering four questions as a team:
What do we want students to learn? (Essential standards)
How will we know if they learned it? (Assessment)
What will we do when students don’t learn? (WIN time/intervention)
What will we do if they already know it? (WIN time/enrichment)
Ms. Hodges and three of our teacher leaders attended a workshop this week to strengthen our team’s ability to help all of our students master essential grade level standards. During the workshop, our participants learned about how important it is for teaching teams to have clarity around what we want all students to know and be able to do, to plan units of study together, and to develop collective responses to our students’ needs. We look forward to using this important training to refine and improve our work for students.
