What are Teacher Features?
We are proud of our educators at HSSD! Teacher Features are nominated by students, parents, and staff. To nominate a teacher for this section of The Compass, email website@hssdschools.org.At HSSD, our students are learning from the book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. In each edition of The Compass, the Student Services team will share a topic for families to reflect upon.
Live the 7 Habits: Habit 1 - Be Proactive
Be Proactive teaches that you are in charge of yourself. One of the key components of Habit 1 is to “choose your weather.” You control your mood and attitude. Will you choose sunny (proactive) or rainy (reactive) weather?
Family Reflection: Take time with your family this month to describe both types of weather and moods. How can your family be proactive in choosing your weather?

What is an HSSD Humanity Hero?
At Convocation, our welcome back event for staff in August, Superintendent Damian LaCroix shared our theme for the school year: #BringHumanityBack. The theme is inspired by our beloved colleague Heidi Hussli, who passed away last school year. Heidi had a passion for kindness and mutual respect and we are celebrating the kindness our support staff show each day in school.Do you know a support staff member (aide, custodian, secretary, etc.) who has gone above and beyond for your child or family? Nominate the staff member to be recognized as a HSSD Humanity Hero by emailing website@hssdschools.org.
Reminder: Call the COVID-19 Hotline
If your child is feeling ill or if you have questions about COVID-19, the place to start is the COVID-19 Hotline: 920-662-7233. Learn more about the COVID-19 Hotline, exposure protocols, and quarantine procedures on our website.

Leadership HSSD Launches Today
Sara Brown, Bay Port Class of 1998, is a familiar face at Lineville. After teaching at Milwaukee Public Schools, she and her family moved back to Green Bay. Brown took a few years off from teaching to care for her children and to develop a photography business.
Her neighbor, the late Jim LaBlonde, convinced Brown to begin substitute teaching at Lineville. When LaBlonde passed away in 2019, Lineville turned to Brown to support its physical education team as a long-term substitute teacher.
It was during this period that Brown developed a love for the intermediate school level and, in particular, the staff at Lineville. Feeling accepted by the staff was what ultimately compelled her to apply when a full time position became available. She is looking forward to a great year with Jody Stangler and their Lineville students. Click here to read Brown’s full story on the HSEF website.
