Together in Learning and Faith
Leadership Message
Dear OLA School Community,
This week, our students were blessed to participate in a retreat led by the FacetoFace Ministries. Through inspiring talks, uplifting music, and heartfelt prayer, the retreat provided an opportunity for our students to encounter and embrace Christ in a meaningful way. We encourage you to ask your child(ren) about their experience and the moments that stood out to them.
Looking ahead, we are excited to host a Carnival next week in support of our Chalice Children. This event is a wonderful way for students to come together in fun and fellowship while supporting a meaningful cause. Everyone will have the chance to participate in the activities, and we encourage families to send any monetary donations they are able to give. Your support, both financial and in prayer, makes a significant difference in the lives of these children.
Thank you for your continued generosity and for being a part of our faith-filled community.

Chalice Sponsor Children Program
Each year, our school sponsors two children through the Chalice Sponsor Children program. To continue this important support, OLA students will participate in a carnival fundraiser on January 23rd, 2025. This exciting event will feature a variety of fun games organized by our Grade 4 Leadership students.
If you are able, we kindly ask for your support through a money donation for the Chalice Sponsor Children on this day. Your generosity will help us make a meaningful difference in the lives of children in need.
Thank you for helping us make this initiative a success!
FSPL Jamuary 'Reading is Our Jam' Challenge
Did you know that the Nourishment Centre (Food Bank) has a hard time stocking up on jam? Here is an opportunity for our students to make a difference!
This week OLA will be participating in the Fort Saskatchewan Public Library's Jamuary 2025 Reading Challenge. This initiative is a collaboration between Twice but Nice, the Food Bank (Fort Saskatchewan Nourishment Centre), and FSPL.
Last week, students brought home a Jamuary Reading Tracker. Please help us by tracking your child's reading minutes each day from January 13 to January 19. Return the completed tracker to school on Monday, January 20. The public library will tally the reading minutes from each participating school in Fort Saskatchewan. The school with the most reading minutes (adjusted for student ratios) will win the prestigious GOLDEN JAM JAR trophy! The best part of this challenge is that Twice but Nice will match the total number of reading minutes with a donation to the Food Bank, up to a maximum of $500!
Thank you for your support!

Kindergarten
In Kindergarten we encourage independence, initiative, decision making, creativity, the ability to learn, relationships and feelings of self-worth. We believe that each child is unique and, together with parents as our partners, we build upon children's natural curiosity and spontaneity, encouraging and supporting them as they take their first step into school.
Cogito Academy
Elk Island Catholic Schools’ Cogito Academy is designed to foster academic excellence and success for all students in a structured, disciplined setting. It delivers the Alberta Education curriculum at a structured, sequential pace, offering enhanced learning opportunities. With a clear, direct teaching approach, the program emphasizes consistency and high expectations, helping students to reach their full academic potential building a solid foundation for lifelong learning.
Each child is created in the image and likeness of God and has distinct gifts and strengths. Guided by the school division’s commitment to Mark 1 of Excellent Catholic Schools, we honour and nurture the God-given potential within every student.
