Kingsley Connection
October 11, 2024
Dear Kingsley Families,
Thank you to those families who were able to attend our Parent-Teacher Conferences this week. Your support and engagement are essential to your child's success, and we appreciate the opportunity to partner with you.
Please remember there will be no school on Monday, October 14th in observance of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day. We hope you enjoy the long weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday!
Chuck Brewster (Principal) & Eleni Gajewski (Assistant Principal/District Curriculum Coordinator)
A Special Shout Out to Larry the Crossing Guard!!
Larry is a fixture of the Kingsley community and a part of our kids walk to school every day. He is complimentary of all the students and in turn is polite and kind to them. Each morning the parents and students alike are excited to start their day with a smile from Larry as well as ending it with a wave goodbye. He truly is someone who makes Kingsley the wonderful place it is. Larry and his wife purchased t-shirts for about 70 Kingsley students who participate in football. Here they are celebrating Larry this morning and thanking him for his generosity.
Glow Lunch
Congratulations to our students for earning their 2nd school-wide celebration with our positive behavior incentives. They have earned a Glow Lunch, which will take place next week on Thursday, October 17th. We will also have a 6th grade student DJ playing tunes for the Glow Lunch!
Kingsley Staff Shout Outs
We would like to invite you to recognize our Kingsley staff members with a shoutout. If you have a postitive comment to share with any of our staff members, please complete this FORM. Shoutouts will be shared with staff members in their weekly newsletter.

Halloween at Kingsley
District 58 has a rich and diverse population in our learning community. District 58 staff members recognize that many families have different beliefs; and because of religious, cultural, or personal reasons, some families may choose to not be involved in Halloween activities. If you would not like your child(ren) to participate in Halloween activities, please communicate this with your classroom teacher and Mr. Brewster/Mrs. Gajewski. We will then find an alternative location and activity for your child during the Halloween activities.
Calling students to participate in Reflections!
All Kingsley students are invited to participate in the PTA Reflections program! This nationally sponsored art contest provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts, which boost student confidence and align with our Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) goals. Entries will have the chance to advance to the Council, Region, State and National Levels!
Here’s how you can help support your student’s participation:
Read more about the Reflections program and this year's theme, "Accepting Imperfection."
Encourage your student to start creating! They can make a drawing, painting, dance routine, poem, short story, song, film … how they interpret this year’s theme is up to them.
Learn about the categories for entries and look over the contest rules.
Entries are due Friday, Nov. 1
Drop off visual art and written projects in the front office. Digital entries (music, dance, film, photography) can be turned into the office on a flash drive, CD or DVD, or uploaded to a free hosting service (Vimeo, YouTube) and emailed to kingsleypta.reflections@gmail.com.
Look out for more information in upcoming Kingsley Connections! Questions? Email Colleen Malone at kingsleypta.reflections@gmail.com
Health/Physical Examination & Immunization Record due October 15th
As required by law, all new students, as well as students entering grades K, 2, and 6, must receive health examinations and immunizations and submit completed health forms by October 15th. To learn more check out the Health Services page on the District 58 website.
Thank you to many of the families who have already completed and submitted these forms. In accordance with Illinois law, failure to comply with these requirements by Oct 15 of the current school year, or 30 days following registration for first-time registrants, will result in the student's exclusion from school until such requirements have been met. All sections of the child examination form must be completed including the health history, which must be filled out by the parent.
District 58 communicates frequently regarding these requirements as it is our hope to avoid school exclusion for all of our students. If you are in need of additional assistance, our school nurse, Olivia Kuster at okuster@dg58.org or 630-719-5850, would be happy to assist you in answering questions or connecting you with resources to complete this requirement.
Health Services Update
As the year begins, we’ve noticed an increase in students visiting our health offices for insect bites, particularly on the neck, face, and arms. These bites are often red and itchy, and while we can provide Calamine lotion or an ice pack to ease discomfort, other over-the-counter treatments like Benadryl cream or Hydrocortisone require a completed Medication Authorization Form.
Please ensure that these medications are not sent to school with your child unless proper authorization is in place. If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to contact your school’s health office.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe and healthy.
For those who want to know more about cicada mites , here's a bit more background. Thanks, everyone!
