Friday High Fives is a weekly newsletter for the faculty and staff at Southside Middle School. The purpose is to spotlight the positive 'going-ons' at our school, to inspire, to encourage and to make you smile. The SMS Robotics team
The SMS Robotics team finished 4th overall in the War Eagle B.E.ST. robotics competition on Saturday. The team competed against 18 high school teams and 5 middle school teams. The team made it to the final round, finishing fourth. Great Job!

Mrs. Herring started a new club for boys
Mrs. Liz Herring has sponsored 'Girls on the Go' for several years. This year, she decided to begin a new club that focuses on boys. The club, entitled ' ' has already begun meeting with guest speaker, Mr. Bird, discussing...........

Mrs. Hughes was proactive
A big thank you to Mrs. Hughes for being proactive during a time of stress. During post-test week, when the scantron machine was not working correctly, Mrs. Hughes made a phone call to Ms. Williams who very quickly contacted the tech department. The tech department was able to get the machine up and running the next day! A big thanks to Mrs. Hughes!

8th grade attends outdoor historical drama
Eighth grade students and teachers spent Friday afternoon at The Patterson Log Cabin, located in Tallassee. The students and teachers enjoyed the outdoor historical drama, "Tecumseh at Tuckabatchee".

7th Grade Future City
The 7th grade future city, comprised of the award winning team from 2015, recently began meeting 3 nights per week with the intent of competing in the 2017 Future City Competition in January.
Band performs at SMS football game
The SMS pep band recently boosted spirits and cheered on the SMS football team at J.E. Hot O'Brien Stadium. Great job to the band and band director, Mr. Bird.
FOCUS attends Youth Leadership Conference
Accompanied by Mrs. Pam Cox, FOCUS recently attended the twelfth annual Alabama Youth Conference in Montgomery, to learn about leading prevention of Drugs, Bullying, Teen Pregnancy, HIV, and other adolescent risk behaviors in their schools and communities
