#AllforONE! September 23rd - 27th
From the Desk of Dr. Gantt
Dear Wise Owls Family,
As we wrap up the first month of the school year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for your continued support and partnership. It has been a joy to see the energy, enthusiasm, and growth of our students as they settle into their routines and engage with learning.
Your commitment to your child’s education is vital, and it’s clear that our collaborative efforts are helping to create a positive and supportive environment for everyone. From morning drop-offs to after-school activities, and everything in between, your involvement truly makes a difference.
At the Ville', we believe that a strong school community is the foundation for student success. Whether it’s volunteering, attending events, supporting your child with homework, or simply staying informed, your participation is invaluable. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group of families that shares our vision for excellence in education.
As we continue through the school year, I encourage you to remain engaged in the life of the school. There will be many more opportunities for you to get involved—through classroom support, school-wide events, and parent-teacher communication. Together, we can continue to build a strong, vibrant, and inclusive community where every child can thrive.
Please feel free to reach out to me, your child’s teacher, or any of our staff if you have questions, concerns, or ideas. Your feedback and partnership are always appreciated.
Thank you once again for your support and dedication. I look forward to all we will accomplish together in the months ahead.
B. Gantt

Parent-Teacher Conferences
The percentage of parents satisfied with school-home relationships grew last year from 75.8% to 93.2%.
Our goal is to have 100% of our families satisfied with school-home relations. We want our families to know that you are a most welcomed and appreciated member of the WES school community. This year, we have hosted our Meet the Teacher Night to allow families to come into the building and see the school, meet their teacher, and to join in on the excitement for the 2024-25 school year. We have hosted our Curriculum Night, allowing families to get a sense of what we are doing this year and seeing a day in the life for your students.
Our Parent-Teacher Conferences are designed so that parents have the opportunity to discuss how their child is doing, specifically. Our Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on Friday, October 11th (a scheduled Teacher Workday). The conferences will be 10-15 minutes in length and teachers will share how students are doing at the close of the 1st quarter academically, socially, and emotionally in the classroom. We welcome students to join the conversation, but our goal is to share where our students are and our plan to keep them moving forward.
If you haven't already, you can anticipate receiving an invitation for conference times from your student's homeroom teacher.

School Improvement Council (SIC)
We Need You!
What is a School Improvement Council (SIC)?
An SIC is a broad-based body intended to advise the principal and school, and is focused on helping to achieve school improvement.
What do SICs do?
SIC duties focus primarily on the school improvement process.
Whitesville Elementary School SIC:
- provides input and feedback during the development of the School's Five-year renewal (improvement) plan and annual updates;
- assists in implementation of school improvement programs and activities;
- monitor and report on progress toward improvement goals in the annual SIC Report to the Parents and with the principal in the narrative to the SC School Report Card;
- provide other assistance as requested by the principal.
Why take the time to serve on an SIC?
- Because when parents are engaged in their children's education, their children do better in school and the quality of the school improves.
- Because parents bring wisdom to the Council. They have in-depth knowledge about their own children's strengths and needs as well as the perspectives of other families in the school.
- Because community members who are NOT parent of children in the schools still benefit from good schools in the form of a stronger local economy and property values.
- Because citizens who are NOT parents of children in the schools also have unique contributions to make to School Improvement Councils. Senior citizens, business people, members of the faith community, staff of social service agencies, and others all have knowledge, experiences and resources that can benefit their community's schools.
