From Your Pastors
Dear Zion family –
It’s hard to believe, but the holiday season is almost here! We’re looking forward to sharing in all sorts of meaningful and fun celebrations with you throughout the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
One of the ways you can help Zion celebrate is by purchasing a poinsettia for $12 each. We’ll use these flowers to decorate our sanctuary and worship center for our Christmas services. Afterward, you’ll be able to take the poinsettia you purchased home. In total, we’ll need about 150 flowers, so buy one for you – and one for a friend, too! Order forms will be available this weekend in the narthex and lobby.
In worship, we’ll continue our series “Untrivial Pursuit,” where we are wrestling with fundamental questions about God and faith. This weekend, we’ll tackle this question: Is God good? Job was a man who wrestled with this question after he lost everything he had. We read part of his story in Job 1:13-21:
One day when Job’s sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby, and the Sabeans attacked and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The fire of God fell from the heavens and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and made off with them. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, “Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house, when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!” At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”
Reconciling faith in a good God with what we see and experience can be daunting. The struggle is real, but, as Job’s story reminds us, it is also ancient. We’ll discuss what we can learn from Job’s struggle for our own struggles this Sunday in worship. We worship at 8 am in our beautiful historic sanctuary, at 10:45 am in our wonderful worship center, or online at zionwalburg.org.
Your pastors love you!

Family Day of Giving and Thanks
On November 27 at 9 am, Zion will be sharing meal kits with nearby families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner. You can sign up here to help bless a family on Thanksgiving Eve. If you can’t help pass out meal kits, you can still donate to help purchase perishable food items for these kits by writing “Thanksgiving” in the memo portion of a check written to Zion.
Gala Returns
We are thrilled to announce that our school's Gala is making its grand return for the 2025/2026 school year. This special event is not only a great fundraiser for our school, but a chance to bring everyone together for a memorable evening of fellowship and community.

Wurstbraten History Report from Weldon Mersiovsky
As many of you may know, I have recently been accumulating pictures, documents, and stories about Wurstbraten from the very first one in 1971 until now. My original intent was to put this into a book and publish it; however, I have come to the realization that it would be more effective and inclusive to put what I have collected onto a website accessible through our church website. To that end we have purchased and now own the internet domain of wurstbraten.org and now want to solicit from among you anyone who has website design experience and willingness to implement, design, and build the website onto which we can load what has been gathered. I am hoping that we can develop a team that handles all of the functions necessary to do this.
If you would like to help in this regard, please get in contact with me and we can decide on how to proceed.
My email is 49weldon72@gmail.com and my phone is 512-635-6429.
Thank you! Weldon Mersiovsky

Thank you to all the men who attended, help set up and take down tables, clean-up, food preparation and for Pastor Zach's leadership in our last Iron Sharpens Iron event "Sharing Your Faith". My encouragement is to keep looking and praying for those opportunities to share your faith and deepen your walk with God!
