CONTENT FOR THIS MONTH
READING
Students will continue to learn about plays (drama). They will be acquiring the skills of retell/summarize, media techniques, elements of drama and theme. This month we will complete weeks 2 and 3 of Module 4. We will have a Module 4 test (January 15). Module 5 will be about Teamwork.
WRITING
In January, we will be learning the following in grammar:
- Plural Nouns - Changing y to i
- Quotation Marks
- Subject Verb Agreement
- Pronoun Verb Agreement
We'll continue working on responding to prompts using the RACE strategy. Students are working on responding using an extended constructed response and a short constructed response.
MATH
In January students will begin Fractions. Students may have some background knowledge on fractions from 2nd grade. This year they will be expected to represent fractions in a variety of ways, comparing and ordering, composing and decomposing fractions as well as partitioning fractions.
SCIENCE
SOCIAL STUDIES
After learning about the first explorers and the formation of the United States of America, students will dedicate the month of January to learn about the constitutional republic, the three branches of the government, and the different levels of it.
