Principal's Message
Dear Thurston Elementary Families,
This is a busy time of year when we have summer in sight, but we are still working hard and learning new content. Along with all that hard work, we also have a lot of fun things planned.
Our fifth graders are starting to learn more about middle school with a couple of visits coming up. One will be the middle school administrative team coming to our school and talking to students about what to expect and what will be offered. The other visit will be for our 5th graders to go to the middle school, have lunch, go for a tour and get an idea of what a day in the life at middle school looks like.
Our kindergarteners are about to complete their first year at Thurston Elementary and will be marking the occasion with a graduation event for students and families. (More information to come.)
There are also plenty of opportunities to volunteer this time of year. Many of our classes have upcoming field trips, classroom activities and school wide events. If you are interested in volunteering, please make sure you have filled out an application in Raptor and connect with the classroom teacher.
We also like to review and reinforce expectations this time of year and provide incentives and activities for Safe, Respectful and Responsible behavior. One area we would like parents to help reinforce is arrival and departure times on and off campus. We have recently had reports of students running across traffic on Thurston Road, walking in the bike lane, and at times walking or biking in the road. Please help us by reviewing expectations with your students if they walk or bike to school. Your support is very much appreciated.
Warm regards,
Amber Mitchell, Principal

Family Fun Night!
Family Fun Night is quickly approaching! This is such a great community event and we hope you can all attend!!! Ticket pre-sales should happen the week of May 13th.

Kinder Search
If you know of a student who lives in our attendance area and will be 5 on or before September 1st, please have their family contact our office. We keep a list of known upcoming kindergarteners, and would like to be able to reach out to families about preparations and events. Our kindergarten information night is scheduled for May 8th at 6 pm.
Annual Verification/Registration
As part of the registration process, each year we ask current families to verify the information we have on their child. As in previous years, we will do that through ParentVue. The period for registering/verifying begins April 29th. If you have trouble logging into your ParentVue account, please feel free to contact our office; we'll be happy to help you get started!
If you know now that your child will not be returning to Thurston Elementary in the fall, please contact Kathy to let us know.
Heroes of the Hallway
We will be looking for volunteers for both the Jog-a-thon and Field Day. If you didn't have the chance to volunteer for a Heroes of the Hallway event previously, we may have a slot for you at one of those times. More information will be available later in May, and we'll reach out for volunteers through the Raptor database. If you haven't yet completed a volunteer application, click here to be forwarded to the Raptor app.
