Staff Spotlight - Paige Young
- Interview conducted by TVMSC Journalists Charlotte Meng and Anna Lim
Ms. Young lives with her husband, who currently is a football recruiter for BSU, and an adorable boston terrier. When she has free time, Ms. Young loves to walk her dog, play crochet, hike, and cook. “Some of my favorite meals I always have on rotation are baked salmon, tomato soup, and grilled cheese sandwiches,” she said. “I always look forward to cooking a delicious meal when I get home from work.”
As a newer teacher at TVMSC, Ms. Young noticed how the family of teachers there are extremely supportive of each other and their students. Ms. Young finds that connecting with growing and maturing young minds is the most rewarding aspect of her job, either as a math teacher or as a Hope Squad leader. Her mom has inspired her to be involved with assisting students with anxiety and frustrations. “I always want to be there for students,” she explained. “I believe that mental health is integral to their well-being, so I want to be an example of a trusted adult they feel comfortable talking to. I hope students know that they are not alone during tough times.” Some things Ms. Young finds more challenging about her job is to achieve a work-life balance and to incorporate real-life skills along with student collaboration into her lessons.
In the future, Ms. Young hopes to work in school administration as a principal or vice principal. “I think the Boise Schools District does an excellent job of supporting its teachers by implementing helpful policies and career flexibility,” she remarked. She also hopes to travel to many other countries to learn different cultures, especially Greece for the delicious food and beautiful beaches. In the meanwhile, she is looking forward to her upcoming trip to Hawaii with her husband’s football team.

Taco-Bout Teens Event
Taco-bout Teens, happening on October 3rd, from 6–8 PM at the Fort Boise Community Center (700 Robbins Rd, Boise ID 83702). This event is designed for teens (ages 12+, grades 7–12) and the adult allies who work with and support them. It's an exciting opportunity to connect, share ideas, and have fun with interactive activities. Plus, we’ll be serving delicious free tacos! Here’s what is planned: My goal is to discover effective ways to direct the resources I oversee that are dedicated to teen/youth outreach (busses/transportation, staffing, supplies, and our Teen Activity Center). I am passionate about building strong connections with the teens in our community; I know I am not alone! I’d love to see you and teens you know there. Please help spread the word to the teens and collaborators in your network! How?
Boise School District Leads Idaho in National Merit Semifinalists
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced the Semifinalists for the 70th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program, and once again, the Boise School District stands out as Idaho’s top-performing district. A total of 28 Boise School District students have been named National Merit Semifinalists, representing 27% of the state's total Semifinalists (103) – the most from any district in Idaho. This is particularly impressive given that the Boise School District enrolls just 7% of Idaho's public school students.
Over 64% of the Boise Semifinalists have taken classes at TVMSC.
Congratulations to the students pictured below who are current or former TVMSC students who qualified as Semi-Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program 2024.

Festival of Trees Student & Teacher Volunteers
Yes, it is only September and we are already thinking about the holidays. This year is the 40th annual Festival of Trees and we need help to make it the most spectacular Festival ever. The dates of the 2024 Festival of Trees are Wednesday, November 27 to Sunday, December 1. We also have volunteer opportunities on Sunday, November 24 for move-in.
Funds raised during the 40th annual Festival of Trees will be dedicated to expanding crucial services offered by the Saint Alphonsus Cancer Institute. Make a profound impact on the fight against cancer by join us at the 2024 Festival of Trees.
The students and teachers from your school are some of our most valuable volunteers. To be able to participate and volunteer, students must be at least 14 years old. The Festival is a fun way for students to earn their community service credits and help make a difference in healthcare in your community. The students should also be encouraged to make this special event a family volunteer opportunity. We would love to have teachers volunteer, too! Please have students sign up on their own. We are asking the students to use their personal or parent's email address and not the school email address.
Please have students interested in volunteering register online. If there are any questions, please call Janelle 208-861-9949 or email iowa_girl10@msn.com.
Volunteer Website: www.saintalphonsus.org/volunteer-at-the-festival
The volunteer registration is available until Friday, November 15, 2024
We will be sending out shift confirmation emails to each student. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Thank you for all of your help! We hope to see you at the 2024 Saint Alphonsus Festival of Trees!
