Los Pen NEUs
May 9, 2025
From the Desk of Mrs. Weekes
Dear Los Pen Families,
Our third, fourth and fifth graders have done an outstanding job with their CAASPP assessments, and are finishing strong!
Next week, we look forward to having some spirit days and Day of Hope at Los Pen. Here are our theme days:
Monday: Los Pen Pride!
Tuesday: Twin Tuesday
Wednesday: Be the Light in Someone's Life (Day of Hope) - wear white!
Thursday: Tie Dye or Neon
Friday: Sports/Athletic Gear (for Field Day)
Also, next week we will be fundraising for a scholarship (or scholarships) to provide to a graduating Mt. Carmel High School senior who attended Los Pen. This year, for every dollar donated, I will be riding a tricycle around campus for one minute! Our students are eagerly awaiting tricycle day, which is set for May 21st (see photo).
Have a beautiful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Weekes
A Note from your School Counselor
Next week, we are excited to have spirit week and the Day of Hope at our school! This special week is a time to focus on the power of compassion, connection, and optimism—something we hope for every student.
Throughout the year, students have participated in kindness activities and spirit days to celebrate our common humanity. Monday- Los Pen Pride, Tuesday- Twin Tuesday, Wednesday- The highlight will be our Day of Hope, when students are invited to wear white on Wednesday to symbolize being the light in someone’s life. Thursday -Tie dye or neo clothing and Friday – sport gear to be ready for our Field Day. Kindness and hope go hand in hand. As we look ahead, we invite you to join us in reflecting on two meaningful questions:
What are ways you bring hope to others?
What gives you hope?
We encourage families to talk about these questions together. Whether it's a kind word, a helping hand, or simply being present for someone in need, even the smallest gesture can have a big impact. Thank you for supporting our school community as we inspire kindness and hope in the hearts of our students!
-Ms. Bohn
We Need Your Input!
Community Input Needed - Curriculum Adoption
The Poway Unified School District (PUSD) invites you to participate in an important curriculum adoption process. Our district is in the process of selecting a California State-approved Reading Difficulties Risk Screener (RDRS)—a tool used to help identify students (in grades K-2) who may need additional support in learning to read.
Digital Citizenship Update
Digital Citizenship: Helping Children Build Safe Digital Habits
Protecting personal information is a critical part of helping children build safe and responsible digital habits. Setting strong privacy controls on apps, devices, and accounts helps safeguard your child’s data and limits unwanted access. It is also important to talk with your child about why privacy matters—helping them understand how to manage their own settings and make thoughtful choices online. By staying informed and setting up privacy protections together, we can teach students to take ownership of their digital safety and build a foundation for lifelong responsible technology use.
