June 2024
Jackson Elementary
From the Principal
Happy June, Jackson Community!
Welcome to June and last few weeks of an amazing school year. We are so proud of your children for all their hard work this year. It has been a pleasure to teach them. Thank you for your partnership. Your support for our school and students has been a critical part of the success we have achieved. Because so many of you have worked so hard to make sure your child comes to school ready to learn – we have seen great growth across the school! We hope that you can celebrate your children's successes with us.
We will be providing a couple of summer learning options this year, similar to last year:
- Everett Public Schools - Summer's Greatest Hits: Weekly activities for students to engage in at home. Participation should be recorded using the link on the summer learning website available here.
- Real Dawgs Read - a program we are offering at Jackson Elementary. Real Dawgs Read is a summer reading program developed for K-8, Title I schools in Washington state. Participants read at least 20 minutes a day on 30 separate days to earn a Husky reward and reading certificate. We will send home a tracking booklet for students to use.
- Everett Public Library Summer Reading Adventure - students can also track their reading through the EPLS program to earn rewards. More information here. We are having a librarian visit during an assembly to advertise this program to students.
- Sno Isle Library Summer Reading - more information available here. Students can track their reading to earn rewards.
State Assessment Preliminary Scores Release: Preliminary SBA/WCAS state assessment scores will be available for parents to access this summer. Parents will need to have a login for the EPS Home Access Center. Please follow this Home Access Center link to instructions on how to access test scores.
We are very excited about the progress being made in our building modernization project. Next fall we will be at the place where we are making big changes to how we use and access portions of our campus to be ready for construction. Seven portables will be opened for classes next year, situated on the field. Intermediate grade levels will be moving out into the portables. Our library and PE will be moving out of their current spaces and into classrooms. The gym and library are scheduled for demolition early next winter. There will be many changes to our arrival and dismissal routines including bussing locations and parent drop off. We will send out detailed information and maps before school starts in August.
Again, thank you for your partnership in supporting our school this year. It has been a rewarding journey of learning and growth for us, and for our students. I am excited for these last couple of weeks of learning and celebration with you and your children. I hope that each family gets to spend restful, relaxing, and fun time together this summer.
Thank you,
-Darren Larama, Principal
From the Counseling Department
In our first year at Jackson Elementary, the counseling department enjoyed developing relationships with our students, staff and parent community. This summer, we will look back with fondness for so many wonderful moments with students and parents. As this school year winds down, we are excited for the next chapter for our 5th graders and students attending new schools in the Fall. We will miss you. For our returning students, we eagerly await so many wonderful things we plan to do with you next year. Over the last month, we’ve started planning to make next year the best school year we’ve ever had.
In closing, we encourage students to develop the habit of reading every day this summer, according to the amount of time recommended by your classroom teacher. We make a promise and guarantee that reading everyday will have you coming into next year feeling confident and prepared for success. Your school counselors can’t wait to get back to work in September, continuing to develop Jackson Elementary as an exceptional place to learn.

Kindergarten Enrollment for 2024-25 School Year
Will your child be 5 years old by August 31? On March 4, you can complete your child’s online enrollment for kindergarten. An easy and quick process as detailed in the step-by-step parent walkthrough video available in multiple languages on our website www.everettsd.org/kindergartenenrollment. You can also enroll in-person at your neighborhood school or download a printable packet, complete it, and deliver it to your child’s home school with the required documents.
Enrolling early in March will ensure invitations to your school’s kindergarten events and participation in Everett Ready, a transition-into-kindergarten program offered for four days in August to all enrolled kindergarteners – more information will be available in June on www.everettsd.org/everettready.
