DOVER BAY EMERGENCY SUPPLY FUND
Help us prepare for tomorrow, today. Dover Bay Secondary School is establishing a fully stocked Emergency Kiosk on our campus, ensuring immediate access to vital supplies during an earthquake or other emergency situations. Our goal is to maintain essential provisions including first aid equipment, water, emergency food, and communication devices to support our school community of over 1200 students and staff.
We're reaching out to our Dover Bay families to support this crucial safety initiative. Your contribution will directly fund the emergency supplies needed to keep our students and staff safe when they need it most.
Making a donation is simple - visit our School Cash Online system at: https://nlps.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/4/267/false/true?school=575&initiative=18

DOVER BAY OUTDOOR EDUCATION
Happy November from Outdoor Education at Dover Bay! We have finally wrapped up our camping season with successful trips to Saysutshun Island and Horne Lake! Students demonstrated great teambuilding and leadership as they worked together paddling tandem canoes and playing cooperative games in the dark! Students have been expanding their connection to the land and water through learning Hul’qumi’num canoeing vocabulary and the Hul’qumi’num names and traits of local plants. Students have also worked hard to contribute to the restoration of Rutherford Park by removing invasive species and planting 48 native plant species (Thank You Green Thumb Nursery)!
As the weather turns on us, we look forward to learning more about orienteering & mapping, belaying & climbing, and winter safety! We will also be doing some fundraising to support students with their desire to learn and go skiing or snowboarding at Mt. Washington. If you are interested in supporting students financially to make outdoor activities more accessible please reach out to David Chin at david.chin@sd68.bc.ca

Post-Secondary Applications
Grade 12 students who are planning to attend a post-secondary program next year are reminded that the applications are open now. Some universities, like UBC, SFU, and UVic, have an application deadline as early as January. Others, like VIU and Capilano University, have a rolling application date until the seats are filled. Check out university websites for more information.
Students need to confirm that they have the prerequisite courses for the program that they are applying to.
Sending Student Transcripts to Post-Secondary Schools
Any grade 12 students who have applied for a post-secondary program will need to order and send transcripts using BC’s Student Transcript Services portal. Students will need to create a BCeID as well as connecting the BCeID to the Student Transcript Services account if they haven’t already done so. Most post-secondary institutions in BC, Alberta, and Ontario (via OUAC) require applicants to release electronic (XML) transcripts to them using Student Transcript Services. Check out our “how-to” page on the Dover Counselling Website for detailed instructions or watch these instructional videos to help you navigate the process.
Career Technical Centre (CTC)
Nanaimo’s Career Technical Centre (CTC) offers many programs to help youth transition from secondary school to post-secondary training programs and the workplace. The programs include (but not limited to): Students Explore in Trades (Trades Sampler), Students Train in Trades, Students Work in Trades (Apprenticeship), Dual Credit Enrichment, and Career Certification Programs. Students interested in one of the programs should review the program requirements with a parent, consult with a school counsellor, and complete the online application form. After an application form has been submitted, an interview with a Career Transition Coordinator is required.
CTC will be presenting to Grade 10 and 11 students at Dover Bay on November 4 and November 18.
Check out the CTC website at: www.ctc-careerpaths.ca
Engineering Transfer Program
This program is an excellent option for high school students who want to study Engineering but might not be ready to move away to a large institution. We offer the same first-year curriculum taught in all Engineering programs in BC, but we are local, offer much smaller class sizes (and therefore more one-on-one attention) and lower tuition fees. Students who are successful in our program get guaranteed admission into second year at:
- SFU
- TRU
- UVIC
- University of Alberta
Students are also eligible for a seat in the second year at UNBC and UBC (provided they meet the minimum GPA).
