ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Important: Complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARM) Application
Dear CMIT Parents and Guardians,
We need your support to ensure our CMIT schools receive the funding necessary to provide the best possible education for your children. Due to changes under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, our schools face budget challenges, partly because of low submission rates for Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARM) applications.
Even if you think your family may not qualify, we strongly encourage every parent to complete the application. Each submitted form helps secure essential funding for your school, and unsubmitted forms could mean a loss of $7,800 per student.
Why is this important?
FARM applications determine eligibility for free/reduced meals and additional funding for your child’s school.
Schools lose significant resources if families do not complete these forms, even if they may not qualify.
How easy is it to apply?
It only takes 5-10 minutes to complete the application.
Applications are simple and available in English, Spanish, and French.
You can submit online at www.myschoolapps.com or by following the attached instructions.

Please take a moment to complete the application today. Every application submitted strengthens our ability to serve your children and our community.

Principal Monthly Updates
New School Logo Update and Uniform Information
As shared during the 2023-2024 school year, our school's new logo uniform will be mandatory starting in the 2025-2026 school year. Risse Uniform Company is offering a sale on uniforms featuring the current (old) logo that can only be worn for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
Risse Uniform Company currently has new logo uniforms available in some sizes, all sizes can be ordered as needed.
Effective Immediately:
Any item that is ordered will have the new logo.
Any item with the old logo can no longer be returned or exchanged.
All old logo items are on sale in-store only as a final sale.

Saturday Academy Schedule
Saturday Academy is in session for Saturday January 25, 2025.
Students who were invited and accepted the invitation prior to the deadline should report to the back of the school for drop off at 9:00 a.m. Pick up will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Please make sure to be on time for drop off and pick up.

Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25 p.m.-2:55 p.m. school dismissal. Club times are from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. on the days specified. Clubs students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m.

Nurse Updates
A Message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost at 100% please continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

We hosted over 200 grandparents at this year's Grub for Grandparents! Thank you so much to our team of volunteers that helped make the event a success!

Social Studies: Completing our unit on jobs in our community.
Math: Learning our facts families up to the number 10.
Science: Reviewing the different types of severe weather in our state.
ELA: Introduce folktales.
Identify syllables in spoken word and blend syllables to form multisyllabic words.
We will continue our state assessments this week, and will continue over the next couple of weeks.
Please make sure that your scholar is getting enough rest, eats a nutritious breakfast, and comes to school ready.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever or is not feeling well, please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Hello Firstie families!
This week, we celebrated Grandparents Day! Thank you to all the families who were able to participate. We appreciated all that you do.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
Next week, we will continue Unit 3, theme Our Traditions. Our question of the week is, how can a traditional story be told in different ways? Our spelling pattern is r-controlled vowels er, ir, and ur. In math, we will prepare for topic 8 assessment and begin topic 9, numbers to 1,000. In Science, we will finish topic 3, Earth's Water, Land, and Maps. In Social Studies, we will begin lesson 3, where people live.
We kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness.

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will continue to work on Chapter 3: Lesson 6 Creating a New Nation.
In Math, scholars are continuing to add and subtract 3-digit numbers. They'll practice regrouping numbers, for example 10 ones as 1 ten, or regrouping 10 tens as 1 hundred. For some examples, such as 124+189, they will have to regroup twice. Using place value blocks and written models will help scholars practice visualizing these processes.

Superior Specials News!
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.

Hello! K is beginning to learn the different patterns songs are created in, this week they learned the 2/4 pattern. 1st grade is continuing to learn how to play and recognize G and E (Sol/Mi) on the xylophone, 2nd grade is learning how to create their own melodies using the G Pentatonic Scale, 3rd Grade is advancing their learning on Skips and Steps, 4th and 5th grade are continuing to practice the chorus of the songs Under the sea and The Climb on the xylophone for a project grade!

K-2 practiced Keyboarding: Locate and Type Letters F, G, H, I, and J
The learners receive direct instruction and practice in keyboarding the letters F, G, H, I, and J as they locate and type the letters, recognize the letter sounds, and learn the relationship between the letters on the keyboard and on the screen in this engaging and interactive digital lesson.
3-5 practiced Software Fundamentals: Desktop
In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice using the desktop, working with files and folders, navigating file structures, moving and opening files and folders, and deleting files.

This week scholars at each grade level learned about snowflakes and participated in a snowflake creation challenge where they had to create a snowflake out of paper that was not like any others in the classroom. Grades 3 - 5 had the challenge of creating a snowflake that had at least 6 points.
Counselor's Corner!
Hey there, CMIT NES Families! Our K-2 students just wrapped up some awesome lessons on emotions and feelings with the school counselor and now it's time for 3rd through 5th grade to dive in! We're all about recognizing and expressing our BIG emotions in a healthy way. From practicing deep breathing to learning how to talk about what we feel, these sessions will help students navigate anything that comes their way. Get ready to explore how we can calm our minds, take deep breaths, and understand the power of expressing our emotions!
