Principal News
Dear RTS Families,
The holiday season is upon us! I’m thrilled to share that the first part of the school year has been a tremendous success, thanks to the dedication of our students, staff, and families. Together, we’ve built a positive and energetic start to the year.
As we look ahead to December, I’m excited about several upcoming events that will bring our RTS community together:
- Holiday Concert: Join us in the High School Auditorium on Tuesday, December 10th, as our talented students showcase their musical gifts in a performance sure to get everyone into the holiday spirit.
- Winter Sports: Our winter sports teams are gearing up for an exciting season—come out and cheer on our student athletes!
- Spirit Week: Keep an eye out for details about themed days leading up to the break. It’s always a favorite time for students and staff alike!
- Winter Pep Rally: On Friday, December 20th, we’ll celebrate our school spirit with a fun-filled pep rally to close out 2024.
A reminder that our two-week winter break begins on Monday, December 23rd, with students returning to school on Monday, January 6th. I hope this time allows for rest, relaxation, and cherished moments with loved ones.
Thank you for your ongoing support in making RTS a thriving learning community. Wishing all of our families a joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Warm regards,

Dear RTS Families,
I hope this message finds you well as we settle into the school year. As technology becomes an even larger part of our students' daily lives, I want to take this opportunity to share some important reminders about internet safety. At RTS, we are committed to fostering a safe and positive online environment for all students, both at school and at home.
Here are some key tips to discuss with your child:
1. Protect Personal Information
Encourage your child never to share personal details, such as their full name, address, phone number, or school information, with anyone online. Even seemingly harmless details can lead to risks.
2. Think Before You Post
Remind students that what they post online can have a lasting impact. Encourage them to be kind and thoughtful in their online interactions and to avoid sharing anything they wouldn’t want a parent, teacher, or future employer to see.
3. Beware of Strangers Online
It’s important for students to understand that not everyone online has good intentions. They should never meet in person with someone they’ve only interacted with online, and they should let a trusted adult know if they encounter someone who makes them uncomfortable.
4. Recognize and Avoid Scams
Talk to your child about recognizing phishing emails, fake websites, and other scams that attempt to trick users into sharing personal information or downloading harmful software.
5. Report Inappropriate Content
If your child encounters inappropriate or harmful content online, they should report it to an adult immediately. Remind them that they have support at home and school to address such issues.
At RTS, we also integrate internet safety education into our Saber Success classes, FACS and Health Class. These lessons are designed to empower students to navigate the digital world responsibly and confidently.
We encourage families to continue the conversation about internet safety at home. If you’re looking for additional resources, feel free to reach out to the school or visit sites such as Common Sense Media for guidance.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure our students stay safe and informed online. Together, we can create a strong foundation for responsible digital citizenship.
Best regards,
Ed Swartwout

December Music News
Another Music Note:
Band and Orchestra students and Parents:
If you sold frozen food items, your pick up date is Wednesday, December 18th. All orders must be picked up between 2:00 and 5:30. Plan time to review your items before leaving. There isn't a place to store frozen items, so pick up is extremely important. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Miller.
Orchestra and 7/8 Band are taking a trip to Darien Lake Amusement Park on Saturday, May 31st! We'll be performing for judges and enjoying a fun day in the park. If you have not turned in your commitment letter and deposit, please contact your music teacher to get one, so your child can participate. We're going to have a great time!
