April 2024
A Message from Principal Stephens
Dear Patterson Families,
It is that time of year for students to shine with proficiency levels and individual growth. Coming up this month we have our computer-based AASA/AZSci state testing for grades 3rd-6th. Testing will be from April 3rd-April 22nd. Please look for information from your child’s teacher on their specific testing days and times.
It is important to have students in attendance, on time, and ready for their day. If at all possible, please schedule any appointments after school, especially during this testing timeframe. Families can help students prepare for the tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy, full breakfast in order to have enough “brain fuel”.
Test Taking Tips for Students
Doing your best on a test takes a little planning. Here are a couple of tips to help you be ready for test days.
1. The night before the test, go to bed on time - or even early so that you get enough rest.
2. Wake up on time. Give yourself plenty of time for a stress-free morning.
3. Eat a good, healthy breakfast. Make sure to have some protein for brainpower.
4. Arrive to school on time, ready to learn and succeed.
5. Try your best, think positive - you will do great!
Thank you for your continued support, our students have achieved so much already this year and I have no doubt that they will continue to rise to their full potential. On behalf of our staff, thank you parents for making Patterson amazing!
Warmly,
Sarah Stephens
Principal

Library Corner with Ms. Hufford
Thank you to all families who participated in Read Across America BINGO over spring break. I hope you had the opportunity to try a variety of reading experiences together.
In library news, we're excited to announce the final Birthday Book Club of this school year, happening on April 19th. This unique celebration is open to students with birthdays in April, May, and June. Look out for invitations coming home with your child by April 1st – and remember, the deadline to turn these in is April 16th. Missed a previous opportunity to sign up? No worries! You can easily print a donation form and join in the fun. Here's a fun fact! I recently discovered a nameplate with my 22-year-old son's name from many years past! Birthday Book Club is an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy at Patterson, all while enriching our library's collection.
Excitingly, we will welcome author Kailei Pew back to Patterson on April 30th. Addressing our 5th and 6th graders, she will share insights into her newest book, "Kid-Ventors", which is already receiving glowing reviews. Stay tuned for details on how you can secure a signed copy of her latest work.

Thank you for your continued support of our library events. Here's to fostering a love for reading that lasts a lifetime!
Kindness Club with Mrs. Landon
If your child likes to do crafts with cutting and gluing and coloring, this club is for you! In Kindness Club, Mrs. Landon chooses a book such as, “How Full is Your Bucket?” and we do a corresponding craft. For that story, we created a real kindness bucket with a plastic cup, pipe cleaners, stickers, and markers. Even though our “bucket” is imaginary, we could focus on being kind and filling people’s buckets throughout each day. Each week we have a different story and craft to promote kindness and to have some fun, creative time together. Students will bring home the projects each time we meet.
For 4th quarter we are inviting 1st grade students to attend. Register through Community Education. We will meet Tuesday mornings at 7:45am. Mrs. Landon dismisses the students to go directly to their classrooms at 8:30. This last quarter has an extra day included! Tax Credit Donations
Tax Credit donations help students become involved in fun, meaningful and life-enhancing activities like extra-curricular enrichment programs, athletics, or field trips. Eligible contributions are donated directly to schools, not to the state or the school district and are a full refund, not a deduction. Arizona law enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per calendar year if filing status is Married, filing Joint Return; $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is Single or Head of Household. By making a tax credit donation, you are saying how you want your tax dollars spent. To donate or to learn more, visit our website: Parent Resources / Tax Credit and Student Fee Payment Menu (cusd80.com)
Thank you so much for your support of Patterson Elementary Students.
