Firefly Families,
What a wonderful week it has been! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to each of you for the kind words, sweet treats, thoughtful notes and warm smiles you shared with our staff during Staff Appreciation Week. Your generosity and encouragement mean the world to us. We truly are blessed with an incredible team of educators and a supportive community that surrounds them!
Our Fireflies have also had a busy and exciting week! Our talented students participated in the District Choir Festival, sharing their beautiful voices and representing our campus with pride. Fourth grade had a fantastic time exploring Texas history at George Ranch, and our fifth graders were over the moon during their field trip to NASA—what an inspiring experience for all!
In academics, students have been working hard on their end-of-year MAP assessments. We look forward to reviewing the data and will share the results with you as soon as they become available. These assessments help us celebrate student growth and plan for continued success as look forward to next year.
Lastly, with Mother’s Day this weekend, we want to take a moment to say thank you to all the incredible mothers, grandmothers, guardians and mother figures in our students' lives. Your love, strength and support are the heart of our Firefly community. We honor and appreciate you today and every day.
Wishing you all a joyful weekend filled with love and celebration!
Filled with Firefly Pride,
Carla

🎓 What Do You Want to Be? Career Day Dress-Up – May 16
Dear Parent/ Guardian:
On Friday, May 16, 2025, Alyssa Ferguson Elementary students will be participating in “Career
Day”. The students will be learning about different careers from our awesome speakers.
“Career Day” is a way to assist students with their career development.
Students in grades PreK-5 are allowed to dress up as their career choice. Students should not
dress up as a cartoon character or a superhero. Also, students may not wear anything that will
cover their face. Dressing up for “Career Day” is optional.

🌟 Student Spotlight: Jeeya Ninan Shines Bright!
We’re so proud of Jeeya Ninan, a 3rd grader here at Ferguson, for her creative accomplishment!
Jeeya entered the 2025 Poetry Society of Texas Contest and earned an Honorable Mention for her poem titled “Winter.” ❄️
Way to go, Jeeya! Your talent and hard work truly inspire us all. 💫
🧪 Science Stars Shine at the District Fair!
We’re thrilled to celebrate our amazing Fireflies who advanced to the District Science Fair this year:
3rd Grade: Adeline Gerber & Abigail Olainu-Alade
4th Grade: Jacob Dadie & Hope Goyea
5th Grade: Iker Zelaya & Preston Weindorf
These young scientists represented Ferguson with excellence, curiosity, and creativity!
🌟 Special shoutout to 4th grader Jacob Dadie, who received a district-wide award for
“Most Likely to Make $1 Million Before the Age of 18” for his project, “An Eco Hero.”
Out of 172 projects entered from across the district (grades 3–5), only 20 received awards—and one of them was ours!
Way to go, Fireflies! We’re so proud of your hard work and innovation. 💡
Important Announcements
School Closure on May 26
News from Nurse Peluse
To ensure the health of our school community, please keep your child home if they are experiencing symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, severe cough, or any other signs of illness. A fever is anything above 100 degrees.
Contact Nurse Peluse if you have any questions about when your student can return to school. If you are unsure whether to send your child to school, most likely the student should stay home to rest and recover.
Please consult your child's healthcare provider for specific guidance regarding their health concerns. With flu season being in full effect, we must prioritize the health of all students and staff.
