Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 24th January 2025
Year 4 Class Worship
Year 4 led worship on Wednesday morning on the theme of the Lunar New Year. The pupils acted out the story of how the years came to be named after the animals. There were 13 animals who tried to cross the river – can you remember which one did not make it across at first, and so which animal does not have a year named after it? We prayed for all who celebrate the Lunar New Year and that their hopes and dreams for the Year of the Snake will be fulfilled. The children encouraged everyone to consider what their hopes and dreams were for the coming year. Well done to Year 4 for their confident speaking and great acting skills demonstrated during the worship, and thank you to all who came along to watch.
The next Wednesday Worship will be presented by Year 3 on Wednesday 5th February at 9am. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to this week's stars:
Nursery -Theo H for engaging in group activities.
Reception - Dasha for being a Creative Chameleon this week producing a beautiful Willow Pattern plate and painting a wonderfully detailed picture of a pagoda.
Year 1 - Myles for putting lots of effort into his letter formation.
Year 2 - Ava-Rose for her effort and determination in maths this week. She has been working so hard to identify the different coins and to understand their value. She's been impressing us all counting in 2s and 10s with certain coins too!
Year 3 - Ella for her fantastic use of prepositions, conjunctions and descriptive language to create an imaginative diary entry for the Winter's Child.
Year 4 - Hugo for persevering with his handwriting. He has worked so hard to make his writing beautiful.
Year 5 - Katherine for being a thoughtful and caring member of the class. She is always looking out for and helping others.
Year 6 - Danny for being responsible for his own learning and for taking every opportunity to improve.
Details for the Christingle Service on Monday 3rd February
This information is repeated from last week but we thought parents may appreciate a second chance to read the details.
Reception to Year 6
We are delighted to be able to visit the Cathedral for a Christingle Service on Monday 3rd February at 5pm. Staff will look after the children (Reception - Year 6) after school before we walk up to the Cathedral in time for the 5pm service in the nave. Please note that there will be no Oscar’s after school care on this date. If you have already booked Oscar's after school on Monday 3rd February, we will be arranging a credit note.
Due to unavoidable staff absence, the school kitchen will be unable to serve a full meal for the children after school (school lunch will be as usual). However, we will provide all the children with a snack and drink (e.g. a piece of fruit and a cupcake). If you would like your child to bring a sandwich or something similar to eat after school in addition, please feel free to arrange this.
We are assuming that all children will be staying on at school and will attend service unless you notify us otherwise. If this is the case, we ask that you email school rbingham@riponcathedral.n-yorks.sch.uk to tell us that your child/children will not be in attendance and will be collected at the usual time (3.15pm) on Monday 3rd February 2025. Children will arrive at the Cathedral at just before 5pm for the service. We ask that parents and carers sit on the left side of the nave (as you walk in from the main entrance). Children will be seated on the right.
Children must be collected from the Cathedral at 5.30pm. At the end of the service we will move the children so that they are together as a class and ready for collection. Please make sure that you see your child's class teacher before taking your child. We are expecting the service to end by 5.30pm.
At the end of the service there will be a collection for the Children's Society. Please do help support this worthy cause.
Nursery Children
All Nursery children are welcome to attend the service with their parents. However, please note that they must be collected at the usual time of 3.15pm on Monday 3rd February if they attend Nursery on Monday afternoons.
We will not be running Oscar’s after school on Monday 3rd February as most children will be looked after in class and the Oscar’s staff will be busy helping. If you have already booked Oscar’s for that date, we will issue a credit note. If you usually use Oscar’s and are unable to collect at 3.15pm, please let Mrs Rich know so that we can explain our alternative childcare arrangements.
Young Voices
The Young Voices club are ready for their trip to Sheffield Arena on Tuesday and have been putting the finishing touches to their performance this week. Parent tickets have been distributed to all who ordered them and T-Shirts were given out today. A reminder that the children should come to school on Tuesday in their Young Voices clothes: Black or grey trousers/skirt (leggings or jogging bottoms are fine), Young Voices T-Shirt and a jumper or hoodie to wear during rehearsals. There will be plenty of standing up during the rehearsal and concert so comfortable footwear is essential - shoes, boots or trainers are fine. Please bring a coat, two water bottles and a packed meal to eat in the evening. Mini torches will be given out on the day.
ScholarPack App
We are aware that some parents do not receive notifications for the ScholarPack app and therefore sometimes see a message a little late. We have started to send some more urgent or key messages via text as generally most people do see these more quickly. However, it would really help us keep the bills down if we could send messages via the app wherever possible. Please could you ensure you have switched on notifications for the ScholarPack App. If you are unclear on how to do this, please check with the office or an internet search engine might be easier! If you remain with notifications switched off, please can we ask you to check the ScholarPack App regularly? Many thanks.
