Principal's Message
Dear Lord,
Open my heart and my mind
as I prepare for Confirmation.
Help me to know that you are
confirming all the goodness that I am
and all the goodness that I will become.
Increase my desire to know and
follow Jesus as his disciple
with a grateful and courageous heart.
Amen.
Confirmation
This weekend we are thinking of our Year 6 Confirmation candidates as they prepare for this very special day on Sunday. During Confirmation, the Holy Spirit, who is God, comes upon us, giving us special gifts that strengthen our ability to love Him and others more deeply. Please keep these students and their families in your prayers.
Book Week - Reading is Magic
We will celebrate Book Week at St Jude's next week. On Thursday 29th August (please note there was a date error on the flyer that went home last Friday). The staff and students are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character. We will gather in the hall after the morning bells for our Book Week Parade. This year, our FOSJ committee are providing a book prize for the best costume in each class. We encourage children to create costumes from items they have at home, rather than buying costumes from the shop. We can't wait to see what everyone's favourite books are this year!
Later that afternoon, we we have our Book Week incursion. Perform Education company is coming in to present an exciting performance centred around the Book Week theme: Reading is Magic. Maybe a Miracle is a joyful leap into the world of imagination that books inspire for every individual to be part of, while featuring a selection of the 2024 CBCA shortlisted books to help point the way.
Father's Day Breakfast and Athletics Carnival
Bacon and egg burgers are on the menu for our Father's Day Breakfast on Friday 30th August. The Staff of St Jude's are pleased to prepare a small token of our appreciation to our dads in readiness for Father's Day on Sunday. The breakfast will be available for dads and their St Jude's children between 7.45am - 8.15am. We will also have tea, coffee and juice available.
Following the breakfast, the remainder of our day (weather permitting) will be set aside for our annual School Athletics Carnival. Parents are welcoming to join us to cheer on the children in their events. Our FOSJ committee will be running a stall to sell drinks, cakes and sausage sizzle during the day. There will also be a small selection of Father's Day gifts available for parents who are unable to attend the Father's Day Stall on Wednesday and Thursday next week (2.30pm - 3.30pm).
Please note that our fundraiser for the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle at Maddington (that was scheduled for September) has been postponed to later in the year.
One Big Voice
Congratulations to our School Choir who joined with other schools in an amazing One Big Voice performance at the Perth RAC Arena yesterday. Special mention must be made of Ruby, Adrian and Nora, who were selected for a very special singing role on the stage during the performance. Thank you, Mrs Murray, for working with our choir all year to enable them to shine on the day!
Influenza
Influenza type symptoms have continued to impact our school quite significantly this week with several staff and students being unwell. We have provided face masks in all classrooms for staff and children who would like to wear one. Remember, Influenza, RSV and covid can be spread easily to others and therefore, it is important that you monitor your child and keep them home if they are suffering from flu like symptoms such as fever, muscle aches and pains, sore throat, dizziness, and/or cough.
Week 7 Canteen Specials
Due to an unexpected power outage today, we are extending our canteen special into Week 7. The special is Macaroni and Cheese for $3.50. We also have a gluten free option for $4.00.
Happy Birthday to the following students who have recently celebrated their special day!

CEWA Child Safe Framework
Have you heard of the CEWA Child Safe Framework?
Over the term we have looked at the 3 key concepts that underpin the CEWA Child Safe Framework and the nine elements that combined, help us to make decisions surrounding child safety in the school.
In the coming weeks, we will unpack one of these nine elements each week and how St Jude's ensures that each element is being addressed.
This week's focus is:
Voice of the Child
Recognises each child and young person’s right to be heard and to have a voice in all that happens to them.
What does this look like?
- All our students, including the vulnerable and marginalised, are involved in how our school creates a supportive, safe and engaging learning environment.
- Students have an opportunity to provide feedback and actively participate in decision making.
At St Jude's we:
- Students have opportunities to provide feedback and actively participate in decision-making.
- The school has a culture where children feel comfortable speaking up about matters that are important to them.
- Our Year 6 Leaders/Committees, Student Council, Captains meet regularly to discuss school matters and to workshop possible events/ideas to improve the school
- Student Code of Conduct was developed in consultation with our Year 6 leaders with the aim of expanding this to other year levels next year
- Students from across the school are involved in a culture survey every few years where they are able to anonymously provide information about how they perceive the school and possibly areas for improvement
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Principal
Sacrament of Confirmation
This Sunday a number of our Year 6 students will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep our students in your prayers as they receive the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit and becoming full members of the Catholic Church this Sunday. We look forward to celebrating this special celebration with our parish community, family, friends, staff and school choir who will be leading the singing this weekend.
NAIDOC Celebrations
On Wednesday, all students pariticipated in our NAIDOC celebrations beginning the day with a beautiful liturgy centred around this year's NAIDOC theme and what it means to 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud. The day concluded with an incursion from the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company titled 'Boodjar Kaatijin' where students engaged in a number of dreamtime stories and how some of our iconic places in WA came to be.
One Big Voice
On Thursday, we were blown away at the One Big Voice concert at the Perth Arena. The school choir looked and sounded amazing as they sung a variety of songs with uplifting and positive affirmations. Well done to Mrs Murray and the school choir on an outstanding performance!
