Leland is so proud of our spelling STAR, Hazel! She competed in the Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington DC 🐝 We had a huge send off party for her complete with Taylor Swift vs Famous Poet Trivia(she is our resident Expert Swiftie), a dance party, and a K-12 student tunnel! Little schools are strong because they operate like a big team. When one teammate struggles we all feel it and are there to support. When one teammate succeeds we all feel it and are there to support. Thank you for sharing your national success with us Hazel. You have raised the bar and lifted the team up! 💪🐝☄️💜

LPS HS students who were accepted to the Finnish Foreign Exchange Program met their student counterparts in Finland over Google Meet and exchanged snap chats! This program focuses on studying US and Finnish Forest Systems in an effort to expose students to new ideas they can bring back to their own countries and lives. Finnish students will visit LPS for 10 Days in the Fall of 2024 and LPS students will visit Finland for 10 days in the Spring of 2024.

These Leland boys played in the state cup final with their Northstorm team and won 5-0!

7th Grade Social Studies final project exhibition!

LPS Staff Carol Shipley Aide to Carmella, helped Carmella develop this garden project for her end-of-the-year social studies project. Mrs. Carol Shipley, Carmella and many others at school spearheaded this environmental cleanup project for the garden area beside the playground. Carmella worked hard on the project!

LPS Counselor Kevin Blohm and student volunteers planted potatoes, tomato starters, basil, cucumbers, peas, beans, zucchini, and lettuce this spring. One bed is also full of strawberries, a perennial plant that will be ripe soon. The lettuce is ready to be enjoyed, and the rest will be ready later this summer and into early fall. Please help yourself, especially the lettuce, which will go to seed if it is not picked.

Thanks to Carol Shipley, along with Carmella Valentine and her family, we have a beautiful new green space on the side of the building near the elementary entrance. This garden includes lavender, yarrow, and black-eyed susans, to name a few.

Members of Leland’s brand new Parent Teacher Organization wish to thank the entire school community for all of your encouragement, support, and hard work this semester. Working together, this group has completed a comprehensive due diligence process, adopted a Mission & Values, elected leaders for the new school year, identified chairs for five different committees, filed for 501 c3 status and opened a bank account, created a set of bylaws, launched a logo, and more—all in pursuit of supporting teachers, engaging parents, and enhancing our school community. The building blocks are in place to make the 2023-24 school year Leland’s best year yet. There are no mandatory dues and no pressure to volunteer, just a shared commitment to our kids. "As Carson said yesterday, C3 is getting ready to retire :). We have made our last collection and the form is completely up to date with all items in the room! Please take a minute to go through the list and make all claims by the end of the day on Friday. We will get all final items out to their owners by Tuesday and the rest can be found at your local thrift or consignment store! Any items lost today forward will need to be located independently by the student :).

Social emotional learning is how students learn to process and manage emotions as well as important social skills. It includes everything from goal setting to stress management, and it provides both children and adults with tools they can use to express themselves authentically and safely. SEL helps students build healthy relationships, communicate effectively, and live a meaningful life.
