Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read our newsletter. Construction at the HS is in full swing currently to remodel 3 classrooms into our new Pre-K classrooms for next Fall. With the district-wide construction project, the HS will be least affected.

We are currently preparing for the large number of state tests required by the State. End-of-Course exams in Biology, Geometry, Algebra I, American History, Government, English 9 and English 10, along with the ACT for all juniors will be administered starting in March and ending in May.

Swanton Accounting students had the privilege of touring Cabela’s of Dundee Michigan February 2. The tour introduced the behind the scenes operations of this successful retail chain that also ranks as the number one tourist attraction in the state of Michigan. Students were able to witness the role of accounting in the areas of inventory analysis, payroll, marketing, asset protection and corporate planning. Swanton Accounting students are enrolled through The Penta Career Center and are receiving eighteen hours of college accounting credit during their high school course work through the College Credit Plus option.

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held February 16th from 4-8pm. At SHS, you do not need to schedule an appointment to meet with your student's teachers. We encourage all parents to stop in and speak to our teachers if you are available on the 16th.

Swanton High School Accounting students took part in the Regional Business Professionals of America accounting competition in December. The students this year dominated the region by capturing twenty awards, and finished with a record ten state qualifiers.

Trevor Schaller, Tanner Callicotte , Jarrett Macek, Chase Avalos, Natalie Wadbolt, Allison Mishka, Madalyn Silveous, Duyane Goings, Haley McMahan, and Lauren O'Riordan will be competing at the Ohio State Business and Professionals of America contest in Columbus on March 16 & 17 for a chance to compete at the national level this spring in Orlando Florida. Swanton accounting students are in a two year program funded through Penta Career Center and are receiving college accounting credits through the College Credit Plus Option.

New this year, all high school juniors are REQUIRED to take the ACT in the state of Ohio. This test will be free of charge to all juniors, and will be held on March 21st at SHS. A remediation-free score on the ACT is one way to meet the new graduation requirements in Ohio.

Bring in a printed flyer or just show this post to have 20% of your bill donated to our SHS Prom Committee. To add to the celebration, Mr. Carr, Miss Larrow, Miss Pelz, and Mr. Dojcsak will be serving our members of the community. All of the tips they make will also be donated to our prom. SHS senior Lauren O'Riordon was recently selected as an Herb Scholar. The Herb Scholars Program, the most prestigious scholarship awarded by the Judith Herb College of Education, honors Judith Herb and her family. The Herb family and The University of Toledo recognize, encourage and support teachers of the future as they make their way into classrooms that will generate the leaders of tomorrow. The projected value of this scholarship is $82,000 and includes tuition, fees, room and board for up to eight semesters.

The Swanton varsity wrestling team defeated Eastwood and Liberty Center to claim their first regional title in State Team Duals. The title earned the 'Dogs a spot in the state finals in Columbus on the campus of The Ohio State University. #GoDogs
