Message from the Office
It was quite a busy week here at Crandall. We had visitors from the Nowashe Village, our 2nd Annual Literacy and Numeracy Night, our Winter Chorus and Band Concert, and our PRIDE assembly. We gave out PRIDE awards, Kindness Crowns and announced the winners of the Fire Prevention Poster Contest. We are looking forward to another busy month ahead with an extra day!!
5th Grade Parents- JFK Email
Attention 5th grade parents. Last week, you should have received an email from JFK asking you to complete a form asking what electives (music, art, band) your student will have the opportunity to participate in next year. If you didn't receive this email or deleted it, please contact Sarah Brown, Assistant Principal at JFK, smbrown@enfieldschools.org.
Social Media and Internet Safety Presentation
The Enfield Public Schools will be offering a Social Media and Internet Safety Night on February 6th at JFK from 6:30-7:30pm to parents of students in grades 3-5. CT State Trooper First Class Officer James White, the CT State D.A.R.E Coordinator, will deliver an interactive presentation to serve as a powerful call to action discussing responsible choices online, regardless of the app, game, or platform that student use. He will providing tips for parents on how to properly manage and supervise your children's social media usage. Please see the flyer below and RSVP.

February 2nd- Read-A-Thon
Show P.R.I.D.E @ HOME
Do you want to help create a positive behavior system for home to help the students of Crandall be more successful? Calling all parents who would love to be part of this team. The goal is to match our school’s P.R.I.D.E. behavior system. We will meet to collaborate and create this system for parents to implement at home. Please fill out the following form if you are interested in joining this committee to develop this great resource. We will plan to meet once a month virtually and/or in person until our task is complete.
Girls on the Run
Crandall families: Girls on The Run is back this year! All girls in grades 3-5 are invited to register. Mrs. Soule and Mrs. Stephanie are the Head coaches. We will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30-5:00PM beginning February 27th. If you are interested- PLEASE apply for the scholarship! The information is self-reporting, and no financial documentation is required.
Only 15 girls can join this year, so register as soon as possible.

Internet Safety Presentation
Please use the QR code below to RSVP for the event. The deadline to RSVP will be on Friday, February 2nd. Learn about trends, strategies, and techniques to monitor your child's online activity. This presentation is open to all parents of students in grades 3-5.
Literacy and Numeracy Night
Thank you to everyone who attended and took part in our 2nd Annual Literacy and Numeracy Night. We had over 380 people and 120 families represented. We look forward to sharing another evening with you in the spring. A special shout out to our Board of Education liaison Jean Acree and Board of Education Chair Charlotte Riley for attending and taking part in the event!
Crandall Winter Concert
It's hard to believe that in only 3 months our 5th graders went from selecting an instrument, learning notes and creating music. What an amazing performance by both our chorus and band/orchestra. They couldn't have done it without your support not only at home but making sure their instrument makes it to school on the days of their lessons!

Fire Prevention Art Contest
Each year, students in 4th and 5th grade create posters to help encourage fire prevention awareness at both home and in the community. Our local fire departments selects a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finisher at each grade level in each school. In addition, they select one winner in the Town of Enfield to be entered into the state competition. This year, Isabella Le as been selected as the winner in the town of Enfield. Congratulations and good luck!

Nowashe In-School Field Trip
The third grade students had visitors from the Nowashe Village, they discussed how Native People lived during different periods, examined a day in the life of Native American men, women and children, and how stories are used to pass knowledge and teach morals.
Shoe Drive Update
Keep those shoes coming!!! Help us reach out goal of 1000 pairs collected!!!
In the first three weeks of our shoe drive, the Prudence Crandall community has collected approximately *575* pairs of shoes! The fundraiser will continue to run through the first week of March, and the funds will be used to support having another successful Field Day at the end of the school year! I wonder if we can aim to collect another 200 pairs this coming week! Thanks for the support, keep collecting!
Read-A-Thon
We would like to thank our Crandall families for their generosity and support for our 2024 Read-a-thon. We have one last week to send in pledges, our final collection day will be Wednesday, 1/31. The winning classroom will win an ice cream sundae party! The Read-a-thon will take place in school on Friday, 2/2. All proceeds go towards our One Book, Three Schools reading initiative which will take place in the spring. Here are the top 5 classrooms with their pledge amounts to date:

YouTube
The Enfield Public Schools is now offering the ability to block YouTube from the school issued iPad. Please note, if you complete the survey to block YouTube, it will be blocked both at home and in school.

Attendance Letters
Per district attendance procedures, attendance letters will be sent out for all absences, excused or unexcused, following this schedule:
5th absence – 1st Letter
9th absence - 2nd Letter
10th absence – 3rd Letter
Additional letters will be sent after every 5th absence. (ex. 15th, 20th, 25th)
Regardless of the content of the letters, if the majority of absences are excused as defined in the student handbook, we will most likely not reach out unless there are a large number of absences.
If the majority of the absences are unexcused as defined in the handbook, an administrator will be reaching out to offer available support to make sure your child comes to school on a regular basis.

Pick Up/Drop Off
Arrival- Drop Off
Students will be dropped off at the back of the building, follow the cones on the right-hand side. All 3rd grade students will be dropped off at the first door, 4th grade students will be dropped off at the second door and 5th grade students will be dropped off at the third door. All parents/guardians will remain in their cars. Follow the path around the building to exit.
Dismissal- Pick Up
Students will be dismissed from the back of the building, follow the cones on the right-hand side. Please make sure your car tag is visible for the staff. All 3rd grade students will be picked up at the first door, 4th grade students will be picked up at the second door and 5th grade students will be picked up at the third door.
