Snow Ball Elementary Family Dance - Thursday, January 23rd
All kindergarten through 5th grade families are invited to our elementary Snow Ball on Thursday, January 23rd from 6–7:30 pm! (Note that caregivers must stay with students and join in the fun!)
Students are welcome to dress up or dress down—whatever makes them feel comfortable! The evening will include:
- Dancing with fun lighting to set the mood
- A festive photo booth for family pictures
- A friendly snowball fight
- The chance to trade friendship bracelets with friends
Pizza, chips, and bottled water will be available for purchase. We look forward to seeing you there for a night of fun and making memories!
January Food Pantry
Our Pop-Up food pantry is happening on January 23rd from 3:30-6pm. Come shop for food items in the front lobby, no sign-up is required. We will have pasta, canned tuna, canned veggies, rice, canned fruit, and more. If you have any questions email Jessie Cox: jessica.cox@cwckansascity.org.
Second Semester Clubs
Registration for second semester clubs ended last week. Please keep an eye on your email for club confirmations, scholarship notifications, and notifications of cancelled clubs. Additionally, there was more interest than space allows in some clubs, so you may be contacted with an invitation to switch clubs if you were one of the later families to register.
Clubs begin the week of February 3rd and meet once a week until 5 pm. Please make sure you pay the club fee before Friday, January 31st by logging into your Parent Portal, clicking Fees, then adding the club fee to your cart and checking out. Any students with unpaid balances will not be allowed to start clubs the first week. Reach out to kristi.reneau@cwckansascity.org with any questions.
School Saturday - Saturday, January 25th
This Saturday our doors will be open from 10 am to 12 pm for prospective families wanting to learn more about our community. Please help us spread the word to any neighbors or friends you know who are looking for a school for their child! We would also love for you to stop by, hang out with us, and say hello to these families!

Re-Enrollment for 2025-2026 Begins February 1st
It's almost time to re-enroll for next year! Current PreK through 7th grade families will need to re-enroll students for the 2025-2026 school year through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal beginning Saturday, February 1st! This is a quick process of confirming your family information and shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes, depending on how many students you have enrolled.
In order to be prepared to re-enroll in a timely manner, please make sure that you are able to log into your Parent Portal. If you have any issues accessing your Parent Portal, please reach out to Tisha Kidd as soon as possible.
Please note that if you have moved since completing your original enrollment, you must update your address and submit one proof of residency. Additionally, students must have updated immunization records on file before beginning school in August, and re-enrollment is the best time to submit them.
Spots for next year are only guaranteed until Friday, February 28th, at which time all remaining seats will be offered to new students in the lottery. Please make sure you complete re-enrollment in February! You can learn more by visiting the Re-Enrollment page of the CWCKC website.
If you have other children whom you would like to enroll as new students at CWC for the 2025-2026 school year, be sure to fill out the SchoolAppKC application before March 1st so that they have the best chance for a spot in the lottery. Reach out to Katy Lineberry with any questions about enrollment for new or current students.

Fostering a Growth Mindset in Students: Tips for Parents
A growth mindset—the belief that abilities can be developed through effort and learning—is key to helping students embrace challenges and persist in the face of setbacks. Parents can encourage this mindset by praising effort rather than outcomes and helping children see mistakes as opportunities to grow.
Here are some phrases parents can use to promote a growth mindset:
- "You worked so hard on this, and it shows!"
- "Mistakes are part of learning—what can we try differently next time?"
- "You can’t do this yet, but with practice, you’ll improve."
- "Look at how much you’ve grown since you started!"
- "Let’s focus on what you learned, not just the result."
By using these phrases and modeling a love of learning, parents can help their children develop confidence, persistence, and a lifelong growth mindset. Explore this parent resource from Mindset Works for other practical tools and strategies to foster resilience and a growth mindset in your child.
MOCSA Presentations This Week
Beginning this week, MOCSA (Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault) will be visiting CWCKC to present age appropriate programming to help keep children and youth safe from sexual abuse and harassment. Check your child's backpack for a letter with the specific date for your child's class.
Kindergarten through 4th grade will participate in Project Aware, which is an educational program that teaches children about different ways to keep their body safe. Students learn the differences between good, bad and confusing touches. Children are taught three safety rules to use if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable: SAY NO, GET AWAY, and TELL SOMEONE. Children are encouraged to identify trusted adults they can talk with. An age appropriate video is shown in class and materials are provided for each child to take home.
5th grade through 8th grade will learn about sexual harassment. They will learn the four types of sexual harassment (physical, verbal, non-verbal, written) and will identify examples in each category. They will discuss consequence of sexual harassment as well as how it might make someone feel if they are harassed. They will also learn strategies to deal with sexual harassment if it happens to them.
If you have any questions concerning either of these programs, you can contact the MOCSA Coordinator of Education and Outreach at 816-285-1354 or projectaware@mosca.org.
If you DO NOT want your child to attend their class's presentation, please contact Johanna Chambers, Director of Student Support at 816-537-1634 or johanna.chambers@cwckansascity.org.
