Instagram Resources

December 2024
This time of year is definitely quieter on the social media front as people take a chance to unplug and spend time with friends and family. But there are also timely items when it comes to holiday concerts, school cancellations, and mid-year reminders so be sure to have those on the radar.
As always, if there's anything I can help with, please let me know. I'd love to help make some of these fun reels and spotlight your staff and students!
Upcoming Events
Thursday, Dec. 5: International Volunteer Day
- Send student thanks, request sign-ups, or show what impact they have in your school
Saturday, Jan. 4: National Trivia Day
- Share some poll or quiz questions about your students, staff, or school on Friday afternoon for some fun!
Snow Day: With winter upon us, be prepared with some snow day photos in case of a cancellation or delay.
- Remember: When it comes to Instagram, a photo/video is always better than a graphic!
Holiday Reminder: As a district office, we do not recognize religious holidays with social media posts. If you choose to do one, all should be included and that gets to be very difficult. So be sure to use terminology of "Winter Break" or "Holiday Concert" in place of Christmas or others.
- Don't stress about not posting for holiday: When was the last time you were scrolling and wondering why a business didn't have a graphic wishing you a Happy Fourth of July? The content of your school, staff, and students is what really creates engagement and builds community.
- That said, if you have a class writing thank you notes for veterans, that would be a fantastic Veteran's Day post! Was there a historical lesson in class on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Share what students learned with a reminder that it's a non-school day.
Trending Items
Our favorite items: I'm sure you're starting to have a few things pile up in the lost and found. Use the Wii music and showcase some of your favorite/quirky items to remind parents to pick up from the lost and found.
It's a two person job: Grab a couple of staff members who love each other and have them do things that are clearly one person jobs. Or two students that are inseparable!
Research Shows: This trend has a "fact" and the camera accidentally flips to see who's posting it. Think "Cleaning up after yourself helps you stay healthy" and it flips to a custodian member, "Longer recess leads to more fun" and flips to a student, "Eating greens helps you get good grades" and flips to nutrition services. Tips & Tricks
Building Tours
Tour Highlight: Consider showcasing spaces around your school, share to your story, and add it to a highlight. Makes it easy for your followers to have a peek in the school.
Tip: Share and reference your tour highlight often! Even with the upcoming kindergarten meetings, post "Can't make it in person? Check out our tour highlight ... or sign up for a personal tour [at this link]!"
Staff Feature Graphics
Staff Features: Even if there's not a lot of time on hand, create a simple questionnaire of anything you like and feature a staff member once a week or twice a month. These are really simple to schedule ahead, add to a highlight, and then followers can get to know a little bit more about your staff!
