Congratulations to Otay Ranch High School
Otay Ranch High School's AOCJ/Mock Trial Club finished their 4th round of competition on Saturday. They were one of 40 high schools in the county who participated. There were several highlights. During each round each team selects an MVP from the opposing team. One of ORH freshmen students, Claire Malicden, won two of the four MVP awards, while performing as a prosecutor. Claire will be one of ORH upcoming AOCJ students next year.
During the awards ceremony, a number of students were recognized for their roles during the competition. The top award is announced last. The award is the “Judge David H. Bartick” award for civility and sportsmanship during the competition. We sat together as a team while all these awards were being presented. As they announced this last award we were thrilled when we heard it went to Otay Ranch High School - to Ava Mondragon. During the third round, Ava played the role of bailiff. When a student from the opposing team was testifying, the student froze and forgot the name of a key player. Ava quietly leaned over and whispered the name to the student. The student was able to regain composure and continued their testimony. The judge was impressed with Ava’s action in that it provided support to her opponent. Ava displayed good sportsmanship by her action and we are all proud of her.
Congratulation to Otay Ranch High School!

California College & Career Access Pathways (CCAP)
The California College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP) Program at Southwestern College is an Advanced Scholastic and a Career and Technical Education Program that allows high school students in 9th through 12th grade to apply for dual enrollment at Southwestern College (SWC).
Every academic year, over 400 SUHSD students are enhancing their high school education and are earning college credit at the same time, thanks to a unique collaborative effort between the Sweetwater Union High School District, other surrounding charter schools, private schools and Southwestern College.
As part of the CCAP program, students are getting more mileage from after-school classes, like Psychology and Art. These "two-for-one" classes allow students to earn elective credits at the high school level and build up college credits that are transferable to Southwestern College or any University of California or California State University campus. Students accomplish all this without ever leaving their home campus.
