CHS Weekly Update #20
January 8th, 2025
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Looking Toward a New Year
Dear Warrior Families:
Welcome to the first school week of 2025!!! I hope you had a relaxing winter break and are ready to embrace 2025 with all sorts of new resolutions and plans!!! It is the perfect time for our students and staff to press "re-set" and evaluate things that worked in the fall and things that didn't. It is like a fresh start and a way to do things differently and better. This learning process is exactly the same thing as our CHS STEM Problem Solving Process...it is always in motion, always evolving, and always looking for ways to make improvements. Our hope is that our students apply this process to all facets of their lives, including academics, and be given multiple opportunities to practice resiliency, consideration for others, citizenship, and ownership.
I also wanted to give you a few updates that will affect our students and families at Central High School in 2025.
- There will be increased law enforcement presence at Long's Park during school days. Our security team has already started making this a priority and providing increased supervision at the park. Long's Park is not the property of Central High School or D51, but some students from Central and other schools around the Valley find it an inviting place to "hang out" at lunch or instead of attending classes, and this creates several problems for our community. We have asked for help from our community on this issue, and we have worked with our security team to try to solve some of the problems. Any student at the park may be asked to provide their student ID by D51 Security, so students at the park need to have their IDs out and visible.
- Our students all need to wear their Student ID badges on a lanyard or on a pocket clip so that we can quickly and easily identify all students. With the start of new construction and consultants who may be on campus as part of our new renovations, it is imperative that all students are able to be identified by their badges. We will begin a renewed effort to enforce the badge policy, and we do need your help to remind students to bring them every day. There are lanyards and sleeves available in the front office.
- The cell phone policy is still intact and will be enforced as well. "More Social, Less Media" is alive and well on our campus, and all teachers will be following the policy we started in the fall. This policy has made a tremendous impact on our classroom environments, and we are committed to making the learning environments positive and productive.
- Students who are on campus, but avoiding classes by going to the restrooms, the cafeteria, or the library for extended times without permission will be asked to provide their student ID Badges and then escorted back to class. Students who fail to return and stay in class will be assigned ISS for the remainder of the day, and in some unique cases, students may be assigned OSS. The best place for students to be is in class!!!
I hope you have a wonderful week back and that you were able to recharge over the two week break. We are more committed than ever to make this spring semester even better than the fall, and we appreciate your partnership in the pursuit of excellence for all Central High School students.
Warm Regards,
Tracy
