Elements of Art Students Create Digital Mosaics
The Elements of Art classes finished up some amazing digital mosaics 3rd marking period. Using the Google Draw program, the students created each tiny shape you see using the polygon tool. They chose the color and outline of each piece and then placed them in such a way to create the big picture image. More of these can be seen at the Art Show on May 29th!

AP Testing About to Begin
By: Katharine McGurk, Journalism & Creative Writing
As AP exam season approaches, students across the school are gearing up for one of the most critical periods of the academic year. Advanced Placement (AP) classes, such as AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP English, AP Precalculus, and AP Calculus, offer Audubon High School students the opportunity to earn college credit and demonstrate their readiness for post-secondary education. This year, these exams will take place in early May, and preparation is key to success.
AP Chemistry challenges students to understand complex concepts in chemistry, including the structure of matter, chemical reactions, and the principles of thermodynamics. As the exam date approaches, students should focus on practicing problem-solving skills and reviewing lab techniques, as both are essential components of the test. As AP Chemistry student Finola Witherington states,”I’m not feeling very good, that is because I haven’t started studying yet, but when I do I think I will feel fine.”
Similarly, AP Biology covers a broad range of topics, from cellular processes to ecology. Students should ensure they are familiar with the scientific method and can interpret data from experiments. The exam will test their understanding of biological concepts and their ability to apply these concepts to real-world scenarios.
In AP English, students will be evaluated on their reading comprehension, analytical skills, and writing abilities. This exam emphasizes literary analysis and the ability to construct coherent arguments. Therefore, students should practice writing essays and analyzing various texts to prepare effectively. AP Literature student Trisha Ladenzki says,”I’ve taken two before so I’m ready for it, there’s not much to study for.”
For those taking AP Precalculus and AP Calculus, mastering mathematical concepts is crucial. Both exams require a solid understanding of functions, limits, and derivatives. Students should work on practice problems and review key formulas to ensure they are well-prepared for the types of questions they will encounter.

Teacher Reading Spotlight: Mr. P
By: Ava Chrzanowski, Journalism & Creative Writing
Across Audubon High School, students and teachers alike spend their free time between classes and work with their nose in a book. Despite what those may think, reading is a common hobby among Audubon residents. One of our biggest readers here at AHS just so happens to be our very own Media Specialist, Mr. Polimeni. In honor of National Library Week, we spoke to Mr. P about his current read, in order to take a look into the mind of a reader teacher.
“I am reading a book called Master and Commander,” Mr. P told us in his interview earlier this week. “I just started it, so I don’t necessarily have enough to tell you the plot.” Even with that being said, Mr. P was able to describe the overall genre and idea of the story through a series of questions— categorizing it as a historical fiction adventure novel.
After chatting briefly about his current read, we asked the librarian some more general questions about his reading life. When asked how often he tries to read in his free time, Mr. P was quick to respond with “everyday.” This reading time comes from both physical and audiobooks, the latter of which Mr. P noted to have been growing on him with time. “The more I get older, the more I like audiobooks.”
It is clear from our interview that Mr. P’s current profession is a result of his love of reading, which has been present since he was a young child. To better understand his taste in books, we asked the big question: What is your favorite book? “That is a great question. I don’t know how much time you have,” was his cheeky response. “The book that I always say is my favorite book is Watership Down.” Watership Down by Richard Adams was written in 1975, and follows a cast of characters (who happen to be rabbits) escaping from the destruction of their home. Mr. P was sure to clue us in on the underlying themes of the story, including its hidden allusions to Nazi Germany and its anti-fascism sentiment.
From our interview, we were able to learn a lot about Mr. Polimeni’s reading habits as our very own Audubon librarian… and his words may have even inspired us to pick up a book of our own. Tune in next time to hear more about what Audubon teachers are reading!
Seasonal Allergy Information
It's Seasonal Allergy Season!! This little culprit that sneaks upon us with the anticipation of warm weather can really knock us out. What to do?!
Should I send my kid to school with allergies?
Absolutely! Schools are prepared to manage environmental, food and latex allergies.
When sending your child off to school, though, it’s important to make sure school staff is aware of your child’s allergies. Parents play a key role in working collaboratively with school staff on allergy management. That way, staff will be prepared to manage any symptoms that occur. You will work together to create a plan with Nurse Barry so your child will be able to fully participate in school and remain safe. Please do not hesitate to reach out by phone or email: 856.547.7695 ext 4165 or sbarry@audubonschools.org
What are seasonal allergies?
A seasonal allergy is a type of allergic reaction that only occurs during a certain season. Like other types of allergies, allergy symptoms that develop during certain seasons are caused by your immune system overreacting to something in the environment. This is sometimes referred to as allergic rhinitis or hay fever.
What causes seasonal allergies?
Pollen is the most common trigger of seasonal allergies.
Springtime sees trees reemerge from their hibernation releasing tree pollens.
Summer sees the rise of many grasses and hay (thus the term "hay fever"), so it is typically considered grass pollen season.
Fall brings along ragweed and is commonly known as ragweed pollen season.
What are typical seasonal allergy symptoms?
Allergy symptoms vary from person to person and each allergy. Symptoms of seasonal allergies include:
- Stuffy nose or runny nose, usually with clear or pale-colored mucus.
- Sneezing
- Coughing
- Red, watery eyes
- Itchy nose, mouth or eyes
- Scratchy or sore throat
Management of Allergies during the school year:
- Check in with your child at the end of each school day. Ask how your child feels and if there was any difficulty managing the allergy at school.
- Keep track of the expiration dates of medications and replace them when needed.
- Communicate any changes in medications or treatment plans to Nurse Barry.
- Report any allergic reactions that happen at home to Nurse Barry so can watch for any further issues.
- Encourage your child to fully participate in school programming, staff is here to accommodate any medical needs for your student to support them in class and out of class.
