Just a reminder!!
We just wanted to remind everyone that we will be going outside every day for recess. Please try to make sure that your student has all of their winter gear to wear outside. We want to make sure that our kiddos are bundled up and warm while they enjoy the wintery weather. Thank you for your support!!
Mrs. Rice's Reflection
Happy Snowy Week, Riverside Families,
I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday last week. We have only two more weeks until our Winter Holiday, which is hard to believe. In that last week before the break, please don’t forget to attend our Music Program at 10 AM at the Lakeview Middle School auditorium on Wednesday, December 18. We look forward to seeing you there.
In the spirit of Thankfulness during this holiday season, I’d like to express my deep appreciation to you for the feedback you have already provided during this school year. I will begin to share those results and next steps based on your feedback in future principal messages.
One thing that I’d like to continue throughout the rest of the year is an ongoing opportunity for families to celebrate amazing things that set Riverside Elementary staff apart. I am so proud to share that when staff was surveyed about what motivates them in their work, the Riverside staff named it’s their impact on your children and families that drives them.
I believe this to be true of our staff, and I would love to hear your stories of their impact. Throughout the rest of the year, if you would take 3-5 minutes to fill out the Shout-Out for one Riverside staff member you’d like to celebrate, I will email the teacher and our superintendent team to make sure that your stories are told. I would also like to highlight some of the shout-outs in our newsletters, and families can be anonymous if they’d prefer. Please click the Staff Shoutout link any time to drop in a celebration of impact in multiple languages. I will pull the Shout-Outs weekly to share.
Enjoy the weekend with your family,
Mrs. Tara Rice

Intervention Information
Reading can be seen by many students as a “boring” thing to do. They read a book, look at pictures, answer some questions and move on. Student’s today, especially those who are resistant to reading, struggle with engaging into literacy. Making the learning interactive is a great way to help these learners, however many times we hear, how do we make reading hands on? Listed below are ideas that can help to draw in students into literacy:
Business card book
Write the story in the most compelling way you can on paper the size of a business card.Postcard
Write to a friend, the author, or to a character about this book. Write as if you were the character or author and write to yourself.Mapmaker
Draw a map of the book's setting.Moviemaker
Write a one page "pitch" to a producer explaining why the story would or would not make a great movie.Trailer
Movie previews always offer a quick sequence of the best moments that make us want to watch it – storyboard or narrate the scenes for your trailer. Focus on verbs.Billboard
As in the movies, take what seems the most compelling image(s) and create an ad.Adjective-itis
Pick five adjectives for the book or character(s), and explain how they apply.Collage
Create a collage around themes or characters in the book.
