FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents
As we approach the end of the month, we continue being busy at school with a number of events as well as focusing on our learning goals. We hope you all enjoy the extended long weekend and look forward to seeing you all back at school on Wednesday 4 June and the beginning of winter.
Ascension of the Lord
This Sunday 1 June, we celebrate the feast of the Ascension of the Lord. Each year, 40 days after Easter, Catholics around the world mark the Ascension of the Lord. This solemn feast celebrates the moment when Jesus returned to Heaven, completing His earthly mission. The Ascension is one of the key events in the life of Christ, and it holds deep meaning for Christians in the Holy Land and around the world. The Ascension refers to Jesus Christ physically rising into Heaven in the presence of His apostles.
Faith Development Day
On Tuesday 3 June, the staff will be having our yearly Faith Development Day. Our presenter will be Diana Altieri. Being the Year of the Jubilee, our focus will be on Hope which is the theme for this year. All staff at Catholic schools are expected to complete ongoing renewal towards Accreditation to work at a Catholic school as this is a CEWA policy.
Social Justice
This term our focus and support will be for LifeLink and the Winter Appeal. The Year 6 Ministry have been busy organising our next major fundraiser and have come up with some good ideas that we will share soon with our school community.
National Reconciliation Week 27 May - 3 June
The National Reconciliation Week theme this year is 'Bridging Now to Next'. It urges us to look ahead and continue to push forward towards a more united and respectful nation as past lessons guide us.
Padbury Catholic Primary School is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students is our highest priority. We are committed to child safety, supporting a child safe culture and always keeping the best interests of the child first. We are guided by the Catholic Education Western Australia Child Safe Framework which supports a child safe culture, healthy and respectful relationships and collective responsibility in our school community, based on the latest research and recognised best practices. For further information please refer to the Child Safe Framework https://childsafe.cewa.edu.au.
All our classroom teachers from PK-6 teach from the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC). This curriculum is taught age appropriately every year by the classroom teacher who receive KS:CPC training. The teachers send home letters regarding when they are commencing their units and what will be taught. Through this curriculum the children learn they have a right to:
- be treated with respect and to be protected from harm
- be asked for their opinions about things that affect their lives and to be listened to
- feel and be safe in their interactions with adults and other children and young people
- understand as early as possible what is meant by 'feeling and being safe'
Farewell Father Francis Quoc
On Friday 23 May, Father Quoc joined us for morning tea as we farewelled him. Father Quoc will take up his new position as Assistant Priest in Kalgoorlie. We thank Father Quoc for his spiritual guidance and continued support of our school community. God bless you Father Quoc!
Welcome Father Tri
On Tuesday 20 May, Father Tri joined us for the first time in celebrating Mass with our Year 5 students. Father Tri was very impressed with our students and how they joined in with the responses and reverently participated in the Mass. Well done Year 5s!
Sacrament of Confirmation
The Year 6 students have been busily preparing for their Sacrament of Confirmation. Father Cyprian came to school on Tuesday to speak with the students about their Confirmation and the name they have chosen for their Saint. He quizzed them on what they had learnt and was very pleased with their responses. We pray for these students and their families as they continue their spiritual journey.
Our students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday 7 June at 6.30pm and Sunday 8 at 10.00am.
Father Son/Daughter Camp
The first Father Son/Daughter Camp for this year was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A big thank you goes to Nick Lynch who coordinated the event and ensured that everyone had a great time. We look forward to the second camp later in the year.
Have a lovely weekend with your family.

School Back Gate
At the end of last year, we installed new electric gates for the back entry of the school. These gates were installed to ensure the safety of all our students and discourage strangers coming onto the school premises. These gates are open in the morning at 8.10am and are open in the afternoon at 2.20pm. The gates will automatically close at 4.30pm each day. Please ensure that if you intend to park at the back of the school that you leave before 4.30pm otherwise you will be locked inside.
There will be occasions that the gate may be opened/closed at a different time. Or alternatively if you are intending to stay longer, please park on O'Leary Road or in the carpark near the office.
Before School Supervision
We kindly remind all parents that students are supervised from 8.15am in the amphitheatre/undercover area. It’s important that students do not go to any other part of the school such as the tennis courts, oval, playground etc, these areas are only to be used during school time. Students in the ECE area should be supervised by an adult whilst they wait for the doors to be opened. We ask parents to support us with this matter for the safety of all students.

West Coast Eagles
Eagles visit PCPS May 21st
Last week on Wednesday 21 May we had some special visitors from the West Coast Eagles. We started the day with hundreds of children participating in Running Club, in their footy colours to the beat of the AFL songs.
At 9:45am the whole school assembled in the hall with Brad Dalziel (former player) and his best mate, Rick the Rock Eagle (the mascot). It was great to hear Brad speak to the students about staying healthy and we had fun learning some new exercises from the very energetic Rick the Rock.
Rick the Rock also made a quick visit to the Kindy and Pre-Kindy students. The junior students were very excited to have their photos taken and give Rick a high five.
In the afternoon, the Year 5 classes participated in some AFL activities with three of the West Coast Players. Thanks to Ryan Maric, Callum Jameson and Harry Barnett for teaching the students some new skills.

Containers for Change - Get Involved!
We’re excited to roll out our Containers for Change fundraising initiative! It’s a simple and effective way our PCPS community can support sustainability while raising funds for school projects.
Students can pop eligible 10c containers into the Containers for Change bin located in the amphitheatre during school hours.
Families are also welcome to support this initiative by:
- Scanning our P&F barcode at any official Containers for Change return centre.
- Dropping off bags of eligible containers at designated drop points using our scheme ID.
- Bringing containers to school and adding them to the collection bin.
Already collecting containers at home for your own refund? That’s totally fine—this is just another way to give back if you're keen to contribute!
Every 10c goes directly to projects that benefit our kids—whether it’s enhancing school facilities, adding new resources, or bringing our community events to life. Little actions, big impact.
Keep an eye out in Term 2 for more information from our Containers for Change team!
