Hello FUSD Staff and Community,
As we complete the first month of the 2022-23 school year, I extend my deepest appreciation to our staff, students and community for their efforts thus far to make this year a success. It has been a pleasure to visit sites and see our team in action.
A top priority for our leadership team this year is focusing on how we can support, build and strengthen personal and authentic experiences for our students, staff and others. I am honored to learn from and with them as we shift our practice and actions. This is not part of a new program, but is instead an emphasis on deepening and recognizing the power of the connections we make throughout the day – whether brief interactions or part of sustained relationships. As individuals, our impact is important, but limited; as we integrate this into our district culture, I am hopeful that each of our students and their families will feel this shift.
District-Wide Composting Program
As of this school year, all schools and work sites in FUSD are participating in a composting program!
FUSD thanks our school communities for supporting this important work at our schools, and everyone doing their part to reduce waste at home. We also thank our partners in this work: Republic Services provides compost bins, and the City of Fremont supports FUSD to launch schools’ waste reduction programs and provides recycling containers and other resources.

Free Student Meals, Application Reminder
The Fremont Unified School District is able to provide healthy breakfast and lunch each day at no charge for all enrolled students during the 2022-23 school year.
Cabrillo Elementary and Robertson Continuation High are implementing a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision.
All other FUSD schools are implementing an alternative program available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called Provision 2.
Although no meal application is needed to receive free meals, parents/guardians of students enrolled in all schools except Cabrillo and Robertson are encouraged to complete the Meal Application Form available at https://fusdcafes.org to receive benefits for their students and/or families (various discounted services, fee waivers, program eligibility, etc.), and to support FUSD’s continued eligibility for specific funding.

College Saving Accounts: Eligible Low-Income Students Can Receive up to $1,500
The State of California is launching the California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS) to give children in California a jump start on saving for college or career training. Participants receive a seed deposit in a CalKIDS account to help pay for future education after high school.
To be eligible for CalKIDS, participants must be:
Born in California on or after July 1, 2022; or
An eligible low-income public school student in grades 1-12 in California.
