Burbank Library News

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer! I'm looking forward to another year and getting to know many of our new staff members and students. Below is some information about the library to get you started for the year. Complete information can be found in the Library Handbook.

Library Hours: 8:15-4:45 (officially, but I'm usually here between 7:45 and 8:00 in the morning)

Library Books: Students can check out up to 3 books at a time. (IB students doing research may check out more as needed.) Staff can check out as many as needed.

Library Visitation: Students must have a pass to come to the library during the school day.
Students can pick up passes to visit before school or during lunch in advance.
Teachers can schedule classes using the form noted below.

Jennifer De Waelsche is starting her 14th year as librarian and has been at Burbank since 2016. She is passionate about research, creative projects, and technology integration. She loves to read though ironically does not find enough time to do so. Her favorite book is The Five People You Meet in Heaven but she is also a huge fan of the Harry Potter series and the Sue Grafton Kinsey Millhone series.
She is an avid Scrabble player who has played in multiple tournaments and was the 4th division champion at Scrabble Nationals in 2023. Jennifer plays clarinet in the San Antonio Symphonic Band and calls herself a perpetual band geek. She has ridden over 200 roller coasters and hopes to ride many more in the future.
She is the sponsor of the Harry Potter Club & Library Advisory Group, and head coach of the Academic Decathlon Team.
She was Burbank's teacher of the year in 2019 and was selected as a Texas Library Association Tall Texan in 2016.

Textbooks may be available for your class. Online textbooks can be accessed by students and teachers through Class Link. Physical textbooks may be checked out as a class set by the teacher or individually by students (if enough are available). Please email Mrs. De Waelsche regarding textbooks and to schedule a checkout time.

Chromebook Distribution: Students will receive Chromebooks during their ELA classes starting August 19 through September 4. Please plan accordingly and don't expect students to have devices until September 5. Carts are NOT available for checkout this year.

Password resets: It is likely that several students will have forgotten their password after changing it last spring. All teachers will need to review the Password Troubleshooting Guide so that you can be prepared to reset passwords as needed through the Student Account Manager. Do not send students to the library for password resets.

Chromebook Troubleshooting

Device won't connect to Domode wireless or is asking for a password.

Powerwash the device. Press Ctr+Alt+Shift+R. Go through the prompts. Connect to the Guest wifi when it asks to connect. Once the process is complete, it should automatically connect to Domode. This also works with some keyboard and touchpad issues.

Device won't power on

Press and hold the refresh key and power button for about 10 seconds. Release and then hit the power button.

Device is locked
Send student to the library with a pass. Most locked devices will have to be unlocked by the district so it may not be immediate.

App is missing
Any apps associated with a class such as a textbook are tied to the student's schedule. If a student has a schedule change, it can take 48-72 hours before it will appear within ClassLink. If needed, you can enter a support ticket within class link in the SAISD Support folder and open the "SAISD ClassLink Support Portal".

Student doesn't know their login
Look them up in the student account manager or Frontline. Passwords can be reset in the Student Account manager and students will be required to reset it when they login.

Student forgot their device
Student can borrow one from the library in exchange for their cellphone. Teachers may not check out extra devices.. Call parents to let them know their device is needed daily.

Every teacher is required to have a teacher website set up. To edit your website, go to EZTask and log in using your email credentials. The minimum requirement for Burbank teachers is that each page should have the following information:

Schedule

Tutoring Times

Syllabus for each class you teach

The library is open and will be available for class visits starting September 5. Please click the link to the form below and you can schedule your classes. Mrs. De Waelsche is happy to assist you with any research projects as well as collaborative lessons. View the calendar to check availability.

There is a poster printer available, but all printing is done by Mrs. De Waelsche. Teachers are limited to 5 large "sheets" each semester which is the equivalent of about 5 larger posters (24X36) 10 normal posters (18X24 or 16X20) or 20 medium sized posters (12X16) . (See Poster Guidelines below)

Please allow at least one week for your request. Teachers are responsible for cutting and laminating posters.

The laminator is only turned on by request (email or call 32023) and takes about 20 minutes to heat up. It will only be unlocked by Mrs. De Waelsche and can only be used during the school day or immediately after school.

Jennifer De Waelsche has been a librarian with SAISD for thirteen years. This is her ninth year at Burbank High School. Before coming to SAISD, she taught speech, debate, yearbook, and English for Hereford ISD in the Texas Panhandle. She is passionate about technology and is happy to work with teachers and students that want to integrate more technology. She is also a competitive Scrabble player and loves to ride roller coasters.

She is the recipient of the SAISD Foundation Inspire Award in 2015 and a member of the Texas Library Association TALL Texans Class for 2016. She is an active member of the Texas Library Association and actively presents at local and state library conferences. She was voted Teacher of the Year for Burbank High School for the 19-20 school year.
