Hello Glennwood Families,
Today has been an exciting day at Glennwood because it is K-Day! We had the pleasure of welcoming all of our rising kindergarten students and their families for a visit and tour. We will be sad to say goodbye to our amazing second grade crew who will move onto Talley Street next year, but at the same time we look forward to our newest eagles joining us for the 2024-25 school year. A special thanks goes out to our GL Staff and PTA volunteers for making K-Day such an awesome day.
It is hard to believe that we only have 23 days of school remaining! The end of the school year is as busy as the beginning and everyone has LOTS of activities and commitments filling their calendars. We have created an End of the Year Activities calendar which we hope you will find helpful as you schedule all of your events. We will update this regularly as needed. The link is also posted in the Calendar of Events below.
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students will be taking their final Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Math and Reading assessments beginning the week of April 29. As a reminder, the MAP assessment is an adaptive benchmark assessment used to track student growth and progress over time. This assessment is for students to “show what they know” and helps inform instructional decisions.
Kindergarten
- Reading - April 29 & 30 @ 9:00 AM
- Math - May 1 & 3 @ 9:00 AM
First Grade

Lastly, the new school garden fence is complete thanks to the enormous efforts of Glennwood parent volunteers Kyle & Kathryn O’Day, Dave and Sara Fleetwood and CSD Maintenance team member, Chris Young! These volunteers generously devoted their time and talents last weekend to make it happen. It is beautiful! Thank you so much for the beautiful addition to our outdoor garden, built for engaging students in The Natural World. Please see the picture below.
As always, please reach out with any questions.
Warm regards,
Holly Brookins, Ph.D.

Virtual Talent Show - Friday, April 19
Congratulations to Steve Hill and Lincoln Smith!
Glennwood is so proud of 2 of our students, Steve Hill and Lincoln Smith, for submitting entries for the Coretta Scott King & Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards. Both students put a lot of effort into their projects. They will both compete at the district level, and may possibly receive a chance to attend the upcoming district awards ceremony. You can see Steve's "peace" sculpture in the front of the school building. Lincoln's project was a story created on Canva. Please congratulate both these students for their wonderful effort!
Save the Date!
ANNUAL GLENNWOOD’S SECOND GRADE MOVING FORTH CEREMONY & PICNIC
MONDAY, MAY 20, 2024!
- 8:30 a.m. -Moving Forth Ceremony at Glennwood Elementary Auditorium/Gym
- 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Picnic & Party at Glenlake Park (students will return to school before pickup)
Parents & Families Encouraged to Attend Both!
Each year, as a way to celebrate our current 2nd graders moving on to Talley, Glennwood holds a sweet moving forth ceremony at the school from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Parents, friends, and family members are to join to celebrate this momentous occasion as your children "graduate" from Glennwood.
Afterward, the PTA then celebrates this achievement with a fun picnic at Glenlake Park, complete with pizza, games, treats, and more. It's always super fun and sweet memories are made during this fun celebration, BUT we need your help to ensure it all runs smoothly!
Volunteering for this event is super fun and easy! You can... Help Decorate, Serve Pizza, Play games, Craft with the Kids, or Help Cleanup! Visit the Sign Up Genius page (bit.ly/24PicnicVolunteers) to sign up for a volunteer shift today!
***As a long-standing Glennwood tradition to be considerate of our fellow parents, we kindly request parents of current Kindergarteners and First-graders to please help during the 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. slots so that the second-grade parents can attend the moving-on ceremony at Glennwood at 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Thank you so much for your help in making this a super fun celebration for our kids!

CSD Extra Mile Award
Students: Do you know a teacher or CSD employee who has gone "the extra mile" this year? Nominate them for the CSD Extra Mile Award! The Extra Mile Award is an annual award that allows students to show appreciation for the teachers or staff they feel go above and beyond what is expected of them.
Students (not parents) at any grade level can write an essay describing how their teacher (or staff member) goes the extra mile (parents can help younger children write the essay). The essays should be detailed and describe how the employee goes above and beyond.
Click here to submit a nomination. Students can also find the form any time via LaunchPad (it’s the purple icon labeled “Extra Mile Award nomination”).
The deadline is May 31, 2024.
These awards will be presented at the CSD Opening Day Celebration in July.
