Message from Principal Alvarez

Good Afternoon, Powell Families

On Behalf of our campus staff and students, we want to express our deepest gratitude to our veterans for their service to our country. We would like to thank all of our Veteran's who were able to start their day with us at our Powell Veteran's Day Ceremony. A heartfelt, Thank You!

Time has flown by and we can not believe Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Our teachers have been working very hard this 2nd grade period to get our Thunderbirds ready of the Mid Year MAP test for Reading and Math. So in the coming weeks and in December, I'd like to remind every Powell Parent/Family how important it is to have your student at school. When students miss a day, they miss a day of learning. At this time, our campus attendance is at 93.8%. Every Day Counts!

I wish everyone a great week, and look forward to seeing everyone this week. Thank you for always supporting our Teachers and Staff. We can not do this work without your help and support!

Powell's Attendance Goal- 93%

Powell Families,

As we start to enter the Holiday Season, I would highly recommend to stay on a consistent schedule.

I know, it's easier said than done. I know! My 6 year always ask, "Is it a School Day or Home Day?" When I tell him the answer during the Holiday Break, he gets upset with me. So, instead of arguing with the 6 year old (LOL), I give him days where he can stay up late and sleep in. But once we get to the weekend before school, we get back on the "School Day" routine. We appreciate all you do to get our Thunderbirds to school!

Please help us if your child should be absent from school:

If a student is absent, please message the teacher that day.
Please send in doctor’s notes or any other documentation when the student returns to school.
A phone call will not provide excuse for an absence- it needs to be a note.
Family trips are not excused.
Students who arrive after 9:00 are absent.
If a student arrives after 9:00, but has a doctor’s note for that day, they will not be counted absent. (Health)
Students who arrive after 7:45 am, will be counted as tardy.
Warning notices are a part of the student’s permanent record.
If a student accumulates 10 or more unexcused absences in a 6-month period they can be referred to the Municipal Court for Mediation.

We value your support and relationship by having your child at school. Every day makes a positive difference academically and social emotionally.

Safety and Security

As we continue to actively monitor our campus safety and security plan, we will continue to ask all of our parents to come through the front office after 7:40 am. We close the side gate at 7:40 am and will not allow parents to drop off their child at their class after 7:40 am. Our campus buildings, (Pods), are locked after 7:45 am. If you should come for lunch, we will be asking you to check in at the front office to get a visitor's badge. Please continue to bring your Driver's License or a valid picture ID. We appreciate your help and support in making sure our campus is safe and secure.

Birthday Treats Reminders

Please read the information below regarding student birthday treats.

Parents are welcome to send or bring individually wrapped, store-bought treats like packaged cupcakes or cookies to be distributed at the end of the school day (after 2pm). Birthday treats that are not individually wrapped or store-bought will not be distributed to students, due to food allergies. The delivery of balloons and/or flowers to students is not permitted. Please communicate with your child's teacher if you do not want your child to participate in birthday recognitions.

Classroom birthday recognitions are for students only, we are unable to accommodate parents or other guests for class birthday recognitions.
