Dog Project 2024 Kickoff
DO YOU OWN A DOG? Would you like to do some training with your dog? Then the Sibley County 4-H Dog Project is for you. The Dog Project meets weekly during the summer and you can learn all about how to work with your dog. This is such a great project to be part of and you will gain tons of knowledge about your dog and develop a great relationship with your pet!
The Sibley County Dog Project plans on hosting a kick-off meeting on Saturday, March 9th at Key City Kennel Club (55177 210th Lane, Mankato) at 11:00 a.m. following our regular monthly winter practice that will go from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (weather permitting). Returning dog project members of any level can bring their dogs at 9:00 a.m. to practice as long as the Extension Office has copies of your current vaccination records. New members and anyone interested in the dog project is encouraged to attend. New members should not bring their dog and can arrive at 11:00 a.m. to learn all about the dog project. If you are not able to make it that day, but you are interested in learning more, we can send you the handouts or you can visit with our office staff to find out what you may have missed.
Shooting Sports Update
The Shooting Sports Project is planning on having a safety training on Wednesday 6/5/24 at 6:30 p.m. at the GPL. We strongly encourage all 4-H members planning on participating in SSW to participate in this day. We will also have a chance for all members to try any/all the disciplines (age appropriate) during the safety training day. Watch for more information in the upcoming newsletters.
If you plan on participating in Shooting Sports, we need you to fill out this form so we know what discipline(s) you would like to participate in. You will also need to select Shooting Sports as a project area in 4-H online and sign the parental consent.
State Shoot this year will be held September 6 - 8, 2024. Please mark these dates on your calendar. If you plan on attending State Shoot and are participating in a new discipline this year, you will need 15 hours of practice in that discipline. If you have participated in that discipline in the past, you will need 8 hours of practice in that discipline. You will also need 8 hours of wildlife training.

Multi County Livestock Quality Assurance and Ethics Training (LQA&E)
Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics (LQA&E) training helps youth provide excellent care for their animals and ensure a high level of food safety to consumers. This training was designed to enhance the educational experience of 4-H animal science projects.
All youth participating as a Minnesota State Fair 4-H livestock exhibitor in beef, dairy, sheep, swine, poultry, rabbits, meat goat, dairy goat and llama - alpaca must have completed a livestock quality assurance and ethics training, for which there are two training options 1) a three hour in-person workshop (LQA&E) or 2) a one hour online training (YQCA). Youth completing either quality assurance training option will receive a certificate of completion. Please review the full LQA policy.
Certification is required for state fair grade/age eligible youth prior to their home county fair qualifying show. The deadline for certification is Friday, July 19, 2024!
The training accommodates multi-levels of learning for all ages. The level of training required is determined by the grade/age of the youth at the time the training takes place.
Counties that have a swine marketing agreement with a packer that requires livestock quality assurance certification may require swine members (grade 3-13) to certify.
Minnesota 4-H youth are required to participate in one of two training options to be eligible for participation in the Minnesota 4-H State Fair shows. Participation in the training will promote responsible care of animals, help youth make informed decisions in animal care, and ensure that 4-H members understand the commitment to providing safe food products to consumers.
