December is a magical time when the world transforms into a winter wonderland. The snowflakes gently fall from the sky, covering the ground in a pristine white blanket. It's a time when people come together to celebrate the spirit of giving and spread joy to those around them.
One way to embrace the season of giving is by dedicating your time to be with others. Whether spending quality time with your family, reaching out to those in need, or visiting seniors in your community, these acts of companionship can bring warmth and happiness to everyone involved. You can engage in fun activities like playing card or board games, sharing a delicious meal, enjoying outdoor adventures, or having a cozy movie night together.
In addition to giving your time to others, it's important to prioritize self-care during this busy season. Take a moment to slow down and focus on the present. Remind yourself that you are doing your best and that taking a break and recharge is okay. By practicing self-care, you can rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit, allowing yourself to be the amazing person you truly are.
Another way to give back is by lending a helping hand to those in need. Shovelling a neighbour's walkway after a snowfall, offering to babysit for a young family to give them a much-needed break, or donating food items to a local food bank, are all meaningful ways to make a difference in someone's life. Additionally, volunteering at a seniors' home can bring joy and companionship to the elderly, who are often lonely and would appreciate the company and support during the holiday season.
Remember, the spirit of giving is not limited to material gifts. It's about spreading love, kindness, and compassion to those around you. By embracing the true meaning of December and the season of giving, you can make a positive impact in the lives of others and create lasting memories for yourself.
On behalf of the Tofield School staff, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Feliz Navidad, Joyeux Noël, Maligayang Pasko, and Miyo-Manitowi-Kîsikanisi.
We wish everyone a relaxing and rejuvenating Christmas break. Students return on Thursday, January 4, 2024.

Cosmetology at TFS
The Cosmetology program at Tofield School is building momentum! At the head of our program is journeyman red seal hairstylist and teacher, with ten years of experience in the industry, Alyssa Yuzdepski, who brings a wealth of talent and expertise, as well as an admirable passion and energy to the program. We also have a licensed make-up artist, also with ten years of experience in the beauty industry, Navjot Dhillon, who teaches classes to some of our junior high students. We are so fortunate to have such skilled and experienced individuals working with our students!
The current course offerings are Cosmetology 9, 10, 20, and 30, where the students will focus on the fundamentals of hair care and styling, and the higher grades will have the opportunity to learn about esthetics as well. We also offer a junior personal care program as a complimentary course to junior high students in grades 7 and 8 to help students develop a foundation as they prepare to move into high school.
As we continue to build the program we are working toward having a fully operational salon on site, offering services to clients at a reduced rate while our students practice and hone their skills, preparing them to be part of industry beyond school. This apprenticeship program would offer a full range of services, including hair styling, cutting and colouring, product sales, and selected esthetic services.
As well, enrolled and interested students will be able to participate in Skills Canada, a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of career in technology and skilled trades. This provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about the industry and start to gain and build on experience.
The feedback from students has been so positive and we have seen a growing interest in our student body to learn more about and develop these skills. We are working hard to increase our inventory and build our classroom environment to reflect the experience in a functioning salon - a big shout out and thank you to BP Glass, who generously supported us with mirror installation, and to BRSD Facilities for the millwork they have done to make the space as functional as possible. Tofield School is excited and proud to offer this programming as a valuable part of building our CTS program offerings, and to have such practiced and accomplished teachers supporting our students!
High School Career & Technology Studies (CTS)
Each CTS course is 1 credit and takes approximately 18 to 25 hours to complete.
