ELA: We will demonstrate phonological awareness, identify and match the common sounds that letters represent. We will also Identify and read common high frequency words by sight, sight words: go, from, yellow.
Social Studies: We are learning about community helpers.
Math:We are reviewing addition and subtraction up to 10.
Science: We are continuing to talk about the weather patterns in the sky. We can make predictions from observing patterns.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever or is not feeling well; please keep them home until their symptoms are gone for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Fascinating First Grade News!
Hello Firstie families!
December has been very cold with a few sightings of snow! Please make sure your scholar has their name written in their heavy coat, (with their grade)for easy retrieval, if lost.
Permission slips for our Gingerbread STEM and Winter day went out this week. Please be on the lookout for a sign up genius for donations for those days. We ask that the decorations for the gingerbread houses are nut and soybean free!

Thursday: Designing and creating gingerbread houses.
Friday: The Polar Express, completing related literacy activities, and enjoying hot chocolate and popcorn while watching the movie.

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 3: Lesson 4 Early French Communities. Students will learn about early French explorers and settlers in North America.
In Math, we are continuing to work on strategies to add and solve within 3 digits. We have been working a lot on word problems using rubrics to make sure everything is properly answered.
In Science, we are still working on natural weather hazards.
****On Thursday, 12/19/24, students will be participating in Holidays Around the World rotations. These rotations will happen in each classroom. On Friday, 12/20/24, students will be watching holiday movies about different holidays around the world. We will also celebrate with popcorn and juice boxes. Please remember that students need permission to participate in these activities.****

Arts On Stage Field Trip
"The Magic School Bus" field trip will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Please make sure you have completed and returned your scholars permission slip asap. If you have not already paid for the trip and you are planning to attend, please be sure to submit payment by Monday morning. December 9, 2024. The theater needs an exact head count asap. SUBJECT CONTENT
RELA
Scholars will now migrate to "Tracking Monsters"--an informational text that will help students explain relationships between ideas in the text and confirm or correct predictions in the text. The two reading skills have been studied in previous texts, but students are now navigating the reading skill independently. Please make sure scholars are studying daily by reading informational texts during personal reading time to sharpen comprehension and literacy. The vocabulary that will be introduced in the text is as follows: fragmented, transmitter, nocturnal, burrows, iconic.
Please study the added vocabulary in VOCABULARY.COM Unit 2 Week 4.

Social Studies
As the Tigers jump back into their routine, we will be learning about the government within Chapter 6: A New Nation. Inside this chapter we will discover how the Articles of Confederation came about, how many branches of government there are, who does what and why we need them all, who created the Constitution, Bill of Rights and how they help us today. Looking forward to capturing this information and enjoying the knowledge that comes with it. Let's go Tigers!

This week in Science, students will be able to describe how Earth's systems interact with each other.

Superior Specials News!
Art
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.
Music
Hello!!
K & 1st grade are continuing to learn about pitch and how to recognize high and low pitches. 2nd grade is continuing to work on singing and has been introduced to what a music staff is and a beginner way to read the notes on it. 3rd grade is continuing to learn about how to properly read notes on the treble staff. 4th & 5th grade are finishing up performing their music compositions, and have begun to review the music score they will learn to play!

In this learning experience, students improve their knowledge of vocabulary terms and definitions related to what it means to be online.
3-5 practiced Hardware Fundamentals: Printer
The learners receive direct instruction and practice using a printer, previewing and printing entire documents or selected pages, and troubleshooting common printer problems in this engaging and interactive digital lesson.
PE
Good week, this week in PE we are doing relay races to work on our fundamentals and teamwork.
LEGO
Hello! We are continuing moving through the Lego Education lessons. We will be working on the following:

2: Amazing Amusement Park: The Fast Lane
3: Animals & Their Environment: Habitats
4-5: Science Connection: Finishing: Prepare for natural hazards
STEM II
Greetings,
K-1: Completed their balloon characters and will be learning how to code Busy Bee robots to have them transport their balloons along the parade path.
2-3: Demonstrated their understanding of how to make the Sphero Indi’s move in the directions indicated. They will design their balloons next and attach it to the Sphero Indi’s to travel the parade route.
4: Completed their hiking backpack project and had their introduction to Balloons Over Broadway project. They will be designing and creating a parade float out of a shoebox with their group. The next step is deciding on a theme for the float and planning the design for the theme.
5: They have successfully agreed upon a theme for their floats and the items that they want to include on the float and the materials that they will need to create it. Next step is create! I can’t wait to see their floats begin to come to life!
