Daysland Digest

Principal's Corner
It is hard to believe this is the last newsletter of 2023-24! The summer holidays are nearly here, and everyone is excited for the summer months.
Before we can rest for July and August, we have a busy week ahead. Our Grade 9-12 exam schedule will begin tomorrow. The Grade 9 and 12 classes have already completed their Social Diplomas and PATs. Our Gr. 7 and 8 classes will continue classes until Friday, and their exams will be on Monday and Tuesday. The exam schedule has been sent home, and you can see it below.
Families can help by ensuring students get the proper rest and ample study time before the exams. Also, a friendly reminder that permission forms to leave following exams need to be completed online. If you have any questions about completing it, please contact the office.
This is traditionally report card season. However, because we are using real time reporting, you can view your child's assignment comments and grades in PowerSchool. Viewing the Historical Grades section, you can access each year's grades on the PowerSchool website throughout your child's years at BRSD. However, this is different on the app. You can only see the current year. You can see the 2023-24 information on the app until later in the summer. The changeover to next year will occur sometime in late July or early August. If you would like a printed report card, please get in touch with the office by Friday, and we will print one.
We communicated earlier this week about staffing changes for next year. We are excited to welcome Miss Alexis Pfeffer and Mr. Kyler Charchun to our staff next year. Unfortunately, we also have to say goodbye to the following staff members:
Mr. Kerslake has been on staff for the past five years. He has primarily been our shop teacher but has also taken on many roles throughout his time with us. Staff and students will miss him, and we wish him all the best as he moves to his new role in Sedgewick.
Mrs. Reber will be away next year and will soon become a mom. We wish her all the best and will miss seeing her at school every day next year, but we know she will be busy in her new role.
Mrs. Tucker was invaluable as we dealt with several staffing transitions throughout the year. She started the year teaching Grade 2 and ended it teaching Grade 5. She also took on the unfamiliar role of Home Ec teacher. Her flexibility this year was greatly appreciated.
Mrs. Breitkreuz joined us early in the year as an EA and was a great addition. She supported students in different grades with their literacy and numeracy skills. We were extremely fortunate to have her contributions during her time with us.
Mx. Jones joined us in January to replace Mrs. Walker. We were extremely glad that we could have her step into the position at a difficult time of year. We appreciated the hard work and dedication she put into helping our students learn Math and Science.
It isn't easy to thank everyone who contributes to a school year, but I want to recognize our School Council. This group supports our school community in countless ways. We cannot begin to express how grateful we are for the assistance of this fantastic group.
We also want to recognize the volunteers who have assisted us in countless ways. Athletics, hot lunches, Christmas dinners, field trips, and volunteer drivers are just a few examples of how our school community helps us through a successful school year. We know that we cannot do it without you.
Lastly, I want to extend my gratitude to the Daysland Staff. We have a tremendous group of teachers, support staff, and caretakers who put in endless hours of work to ensure this is a safe and caring place for kids to learn each day. Your time and effort are noticed and appreciated every day.
On behalf of Daysland School, I wish everyone a very restful, relaxing and safe summer. Please get in touch with the office if you have any questions between now and the end of the year. If something comes up over the summer, please email me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

June Final Exam Schedule for Gr. 7-12
Our last day of classes are going to be staggered this year. Our Grade 9-12 classes will end on Wednesday, June 19th. Their exam schedule will begin on June 20th. Please note that the Grade 9 PAT and Gr.11/12 Diploma Exams are set by Alberta Learning. As a result, our Grade 9 class is finished earlier than normal due to early PATs. Our Gr. 7/8s will have classes until Friday, June 21st. They will have two final exam days on June 24th and 25th.
Elementary Awards - June 27th
Each year we recognize our elementary students for their accomplishments during the school year. Our Gr. 1-3 students receive personal best awards. In Gr. 4-6, we recognize personal bests, honors, as well as incredible growth. We are hosting this event on the last day of school, June 27th at 1:30 pm in the Daysland Theatre. Family members are welcome to attend. Please contact your child's teacher or the office for more information.
Lost & Found
Our lost and found is overflowing! Please take a minute to stop in and check out the tables beside the office to see if anything belongs to your family.
Thank You!
End of the Year Report Cards
We have been using real-time reporting these past two years instead of traditional report cards. Comments and feedback from your child's teachers can be found on your child's assignments in PowerSchool. If you would like a final paper report card to go home with your child that includes their final marks, please contact the office by Friday, June 21st, and we will print one for your child to take home on the last day. Please note that you will continue to see your child's marks and assignment comments throughout July. The rollover to next year will occur in August.
Junior Golf
On June 10th, Olivia, Kiera, Kenna and Bailey travelled to Tofield and represented our school well in the Junior High Regional Golf Tournament.
