As we approach parent-teacher conferences next week, I wish to reiterate the importance of this meeting. Presently, we are in our eighth week of school, nearly a quarter of the way through the school year! Your child(ren) has had a chance to acclimate to a new grade level. Your child’s teacher has had a significant period of time to learn about your child first hand, and how each child functions as a member of a learning community. The school year is well underway and with it the wonder, adventure and challenge that will come with it.

It has been a long standing piece of our school culture that we conference on each and every student in the fall. Every child should receive a conference in the fall. There is much to discuss, and much of it involves the growth and celebrations already occurring for your child(ren). If you have not yet scheduled a conference with your child(ren)’s teacher, please do so by reaching out directly to your child(ren)’s classroom teacher or the office.

Early Act is holding a Bake Sale during conferences on Wednesday, October 16th and Thursday, October 17th. We are raising money for the people affected by the hurricane. If you wish to donate baked goods, please have them in the office by Tuesday, October 15. The sign up sheet to sell items is located on the Early Act Bulletin Board in school. Students must be accompanied by an adult to sell items.

The time has come to sign up for this year’s school play, “Really?! Seriously?! Roslyn’s Take on Reality TV”.

Is your child interested in joining the school play?

First through third graders can participate in a choir singing TV theme songs in the play and third graders get solos! Fourth and fifth graders will act out the shows.

Practices will be held on Tuesdays or Thursdays after school starting October 22nd depending on which works better for your schedule. Everyone must be available for the dress rehearsal on 12/3 after school and the play the night of 12/5..

Thank you, Roslyn Road PTO for sponsoring our incredible author visit with David Biedrzycki on Monday! The students were engaged and entertained with the stories of the "authorator", David Biedrzycki. He was inspiring all students that they are able writers and illustrators, too. This visit would not have been possible without your continued support of literacy events at Roslyn Road.

Due to a change in school code by the Illinois State Board of Education, this school year a medical note is required for parents/guardians who select the: “MEDUE: Medical/Dental Appointment” excuse option for their student in Infinite Campus or call their student out of school for a medical/dental appointment.

The revised school code defines "valid cause" for absence as the following: Illness, including the mental or behavioral health of the student; attendance at a verified medical or therapeutic appointment; appointment with a victim services provider. Please note that the student’s absence will be marked unexcused in Infinite Campus until a medical note is provided.

We understand this is a change in practice from previous years. Please know that our front office is here to help answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Roslyn Running Club has begun. . All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are invited to participate on their own. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students may attend with an adult present to supervise them. Parents may coordinate with other parents to supervise their children. This club will normally meet after school on Mondays and Thursdays at 2:45 - 3:30 PM. Running will take place primarily on the Roslyn Fitness Path and Roslyn fields. Supervision and activities will be provided by Mr. Nettis, and assisted by Roslyn parent volunteers that are helping to supervise their K-2nd students.. During the first half of 2024, more than 2,500 community members collaborated on a plan to continue to improve our aging school buildings. The final $64M community-driven plan will go to you, the voter, for approval as a referendum question on the Nov. 5 ballot. If successful, the referendum will:

• Increase Safety & Security throughout Barrington 220
• Build a New Community Auditorium at Barrington High School
• Enhance STEAM and Instructional Spaces for Students

Roslyn has entered the Village of Barrington scarecrow decorating contest this year! Peep the BULLDOG scarecrow watering flowers that Garden Club created near the drop off line in front of school. Please vote for our scarecrow at barrington-il.gov/scarecrow. Voting begins THURSDAY 10/3 and runs through November 1st. Winners announced November 7.

Enjoy the Glitz and Glam of Hollywood for a star studded evening. Bring the whole family and come dressed like a movie star. Enjoy music and pizza. For more information, please click the flyer.

“SAVE THE DATE! The first Bullldog Bash for this year is going to be a Parents Night Out, hosted by Barrington Martial Arts on Saturday, December 7 from 5-9pm. The students will have a blast playing games, participating in sports, and watching a movie. Best of all, dinner is included! They’ll enjoy pizza and cookies while you get some holiday shopping done, enjoy a kid-free meal or simply just relax :) Tickets are $40/child, and there will only be 40 spots available. Sign-up info to come!”

If you haven’t yet paid your PTO dues ($15/student) you can do so HERE. Membership dues help ensure the PTO can provide each and every student with a yearbook to take home on our favorite day of the year- Field Day! Membership dues also help support PTO programs at Roslyn Road School, including field day, assemblies, author visits, teacher/staff honorariums and more! Fundraising opportunities throughout the year make up the balance.

Thank you to everyone who has already come out for a packing event for Barrington Children’s Charities P.O.P. program (Packs of Plenty). This is a weekly event, with packing sessions starting at 9-10AM at Sunny Hill Elementary, typically on Thursdays.

Region Kitchen which is located at 718 W Northwest Highway, is doing their first ever fundraiser with Roslyn! On Tuesday, October 8, Roslyn families are invited to dine at Region or do take out. Reservations are encouraged and can be made online or over the phone. Please mention that you are dining in support of Roslyn when making a reservation or ordering takeout. In rare cases, takeout will not be available if the dining room is extremely busy. The donation will not be valid if any reward dollars, gift cards, or coupons are used for payment. UberEats and Door Dash orders are also NOT included. Forgot to mention Roslyn? No worries! They have very generously ordered to donate 10% of total net sales for the evening to our school. Did you know Roslyn School has a Cub Scout Pack? We meet typically the 2nd Thursday of the month for Pack meetings, and 4th Thursday of the month for grade-specific Den meetings. Both boys and girls are welcome, and grades K through 5! For any families interested in joining the Cub Scout Pack or learning more about it, we will have a Parent Information Session by Google Meet with the Pack leaders on Wednesday Sept. 18th, at 7pm.
