GOSPEL REFLECTION
In Sunday’s Gospel, John’s Gospel is sometimes called the Great Discourse. It is almost Jesus’ ‘Farewell Speech’.
We are hearing the accounts of Jesus’ life, ministry, and teachings after they have happened. At the time of the Great Discourse, Jesus’ disciples were clearly frightened – wondering what lay ahead.
What must it have been like for the disciples to have been with Jesus through his public ministry – to witness his passion and crucifixion and then to see him in their midst when, as far as they were concerned, his life was over? Did the disciples have any idea what Jesus meant when he said that they would be sent ‘The Advocate, the Holy Spirit’?
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Spring Musical
We celebrated a wonderful array of talent from our students last night at the Spring Musical. We have many talented students who play in the school band. I am always amazed how our students perform so well and are willing to learn and listen to their instructors. Thanks to Ms. Garza and Ms. Bleecker for their work with the students throughout the year.
Art Show
I hope you all visited the Art Show over the last couple of days. What beautiful art pieces the students have produced this year. Once again, we are seeing a different side from the academics when it comes to the arts. As parents you should be very proud of the work your sons/daughters are producing.
Walk-a-thon
Tomorrow is our annual walk-a-thon, sponsored by our School Board. I wish to thank the board members in advance for their preparation for the walk-a-thon. Since it will be a warm day it is important that children bring a water bottle, a cap, and sunscreen. The event will start at 1.15pm and conclude at 2.30pm. All sponsor forms should have been handed into the homeroom teacher so that the committee can calculate the amount of money is due once the children have completed their laps. It will be a fun day for all the school community.
Outdoor Education Program
Last week our 6th graders had a wonderful time at the CYO outdoor educational facility in Occidental. The students spent five days developing survival skills and team building skills. Thanks to Mrs. Allen for organizing this activity and also to the parents who assisted during the week.
Grade 8 Washington DC trip
Our 8th graders will be flying out for DC on early Saturday morning to experience five days exploring many of the things that they have studied over the past few years in their social studies program. We will have a special website where we will be posting photos each day of the places the students will be visiting. Thanks to Mr. Ceja for organizing the trip. End of Year Finances
A reminder to all families that as we come close to the end of the year all school finances need to be paid before any report cards and year books can be distributed. It is also your obligation to the school to have all finances up to date by June 7th. Thank you for attending to this matter.
Student Body Farewell Mass
I wish to invite you to the Student Farewell Mass for our 8th graders on Tuesday, May 30th at 9am. There will be a morning tea for the 8th graders and their grade 1 buddies after the Mass.
New Bookkeeper
I wish to announce that Mrs. Claudia Escobar will be taking over as bookkeeper from Mrs. Reidy. Mrs. Escobar will begin work on Monday, May 22nd and will work with Mrs. Reidy through till the end of June. I would ask that you get to know Mrs. Escobar over the next few months. She will do her best to work with you over the next number of years. Mrs. Escobar has worked here at All Souls in the past in Extended Care as well as co-manager in the Cafeteria. Her daughters are alumni of the school. We wish her all the best as she takes on this position.
